We want to involve the community in our efforts to care for the animals. We WANT and NEED Volunteers - to walk the dogs, play with the cats, foster animals until we find a permanent home for them, help with fundraisers and adoption events, cleaning cat cages at the Muncie PetSmart, caring for the animals at the shelter. We are ALWAYS in need of items such as bleach, pine sol, laundry detergent, dish soap, paper towel, trash bags, scoopable litter, toys for cats and dogs, metal food bowls, blankets, towels, sheets, pillow cases, snacks for the animals, and really anything that you would use for your pets at home! Monetary donations and gift cards are great as well. We are an adoption partner with PetSmart. We attend adoption events at Muncie, Fort Wayne (Marysville Road), Carmel, and Noblesville PetSmart locations. We are very rescue friendly and are grateful to the rescues in their efforts to help us with our animals. We do require a signed contract with the rescues we work with. We are located at 2520 N. 200 E. Hartford City. The shelter is staffed seven days a week. However, we are closed to the public on Mondays and Wednesdays. Hours for the 5 other days of the week are 10:30-12:30 and 4:30-6:30. Appointments for hours outside of these times and days can also be made! After hours please leave a message and your call will be returned as soon as possible. Emergency ONLY please call the Blackford County Sheriff Department at 765-348-0930.

Some cats warm your lap… Toaster warms your heart. This sweet boy is an absolute affection machine. If you’re within reach, don’t be surprised when Toaster stretches out a paw, gently grabs you, and pulls you back in as if to say, “Excuse me, I wasn’t finished loving you yet.”

He’s a head-bumping, snuggle-seeking, attention-loving boy whose favorite place in the world is wherever his person happens to be. Toaster isn’t interested in admiring you from across the room—he wants to be right there with you, soaking up every pet, cuddle and bit of attention you’re willing to give. If your home could use a little more warmth, we happen to know a Toaster who would be happy to provide it.

Meet your new best friend, Milo! He is a 72lb Jindo/Akita mix. Milo loves treats, walks with his harness, and just sitting next to you. He is a super star at our monthly shelter dog walk. He travels very well and his energy level is somewhat chill. He is a very quick learner and has done well with all people he has encountered. To top it all off, he is adorable and looks like a big ol' teddy bear!

Meet Panos — A Beautiful Dog With So Much Love to Give!
His name, Panos (originally Thanos but he needed a softer name to match his heart), carries a beautiful meaning: “all” — everything. And that’s exactly what this sweet boy has to offer. Panos has an entire heart full of love, loyalty, and companionship just waiting for the right person to discover him. Panos may be waiting in a shelter today, but he dreams of something simple: a family to call his own, a soft place to rest his head, and someone who will love him for all the wonderful things that make him Panos. He has so much potential to bring happiness, laughter, and unconditional love into someone’s life. DONATIONS NEEDED! Our cat litter and kitten chow supply has been depleted. We need these two items asap. We have so many kittens at the shelter currently who need proper nutrition and a clean place to relieve themselves. Can you please donate? You can use the links below to order and have it shipped to us directly or clumping cat litter and Purina kitten chow can be dropped off at our shelter at anytime into the donation tub in front of our building. We prefer clumping cat litter but it can be any brand. Thank you in advance for helping our kittens!
