All the King's Horses A small farm dedicated to breeding quality Gypsy Vanners and European Brabants and nurturing relationships with the people who love them. Faith~Hope~Feather

A family owned and operated farm dedicated to breeding quality Gypsy Vanners and European Brabants. We offer foals from our horses as well as occasionally adult mares who are being retired from the breeding herd. Our horses are also used in our Logging with Horses operation in the winter.

Dehan, along with his little helpers, was busy on his week off pounding posts for new fencing around the stallions' winter field. Many of our followers know that we house all four of our studs together in their own bachelor herd. This works well for the most part, but winter can be a little challenging simply because the herd is in much closer proximity to the mares since everyone is on hay near the barn rather than grazing various pastures. We tend to see a little more pushy and assertive behavior among the boys, occasionally resulting in someone going through the electric fencing to get away from a bully. We are expanding the winter field, to allow more space for the boys to separate as needed, and also putting up woven wire fencing around the perimeter rather than electric. This should help reduce issues with having to fix fences or catch wandering horses over the winter and I'm excited to have the posts in and ready for wire...

Please excuse the quiet on our page and help us welcome the littlest farmhand, Ashwynn, who joined us on Saturday! He has been a big hit with his brothers and is very loved. We're enjoying having Daddy home to help with the adjustment (and tackle a big farm fencing project ahead of winter weather) and Ashwynn had already been out helping with chores. Things are definitely an extra level of crazy with a newborn on top of two young boys but we're figuring things out and excited to see our family grow.

Fun fact: Ashwynn, spelled as such, is an English name meaning 'friend of the Ash tree' which is very appropriate given our love for our Brabant boy Ash. But the name also has an alternate spelling, Ashwin, which is Sanskrit for 'horseman' so it works both ways :)

Happy Birthday to the European Brabant Registry of America ! It's been 5 years since we, along with several other dedicated breeders, launched the EBRA with a goal to focus on the breeding and promotion of the European Brabant draft horse and their offspring in North America. I am so very proud of our members, leaders and supporters who are making that dream come true.

With nearly 300 registered horses on the books we are thrilled to support our members with many different goals- from imports or North American bred 100% European Brabants, to breed-up European Brabant Stock horses and our light horse, mule, or cob crosses in the Appendix Registry.

Beyond registrations, we've seen the growth of our Virtual Horse Show, monthly Member Chats to promote community and networking, annual educational clinics and the first ever in-person Brabant horse show classes this fall. That's a lot to appreciate in just five years!

This milestone is a little bittersweet, marking a transition for our family as Rebecca steps back from serving as the EBRA Registrar . She took this on as a labor of love at the start of the registry and has enjoyed the interactions with other Brabant lovers, as well as getting lots of horses documented for foundation stock in the growing breed, but with our family also growing and little kids in need of attention it was time to hand over the reins. Our new Registrar, Kara Prescott, is fantastic and ready to serve the EBRA members and other Brabant owners as the registry continues to grow and expand.

It's been quite the half-decade! Here's to many more years of good community and good horses :)

Took some video today of Banana showing off his moves in the field. He sure did get some pretty movement- one of the hallmarks of our Jack foals!

It was a drizzly, grey morning to do chores but the boys wanted some time with Mariah pony. She's such a sweetheart about letting them practice their brushing, leading and tying skills :) Elwynn is so happy that we aren't sending Mariah away and can keep her around!

Sweet bonnie may be our second-youngest foal but boy is she getting big! She's such a beautiful lady and I'm loving watching her grow.

We had a bit of a surprise this week when we took her for a prepurchase exam at the vet and learned that she has a small umbilical hernia :( This is the first time we've dealt with one and I was shocked, to say the least. I always thought that once the naval dries up and shrinks down all is good but this one was only noticeable by actively palpating her belly. One more thing to keep an eye on for the future!

Thankfully, given her age and how small the hernia is the solution is pretty simple. She'll have to go in for surgery in about a month and then have a few weeks of stall rest/restricted activity while she recovers. But the vet is confident that it should be an easy procedure/recovery for her and result in no long term challenges. That means Bonnie will stick around home a little longer than expected but her new family is eager to get her once she's recovered and ready to travel. In the meantime, she's not in pain or anything so she can just enjoy life with her friends out in the field and keep maturing into the beauty we always knew she would be!

Fresh grass is easily their favorite part of the week :)
