Reece’s breakthrough started with trust

Reece completed our three-week board and train program after coming in scared, nervous, and unsure. At first, she wanted nothing to do with her trainer.

So we slowed everything down. Through relationship-building, clear communication, and lots of desensitization, Reece started to open up. By the end of the program, she was firing on all cylinders.

Most people think about emergency preparedness as a checklist. Food. Water. Leash. Medication. Microchip. Vet records. Crate. Done. That list matters, but here is the part owners often miss: gear does not replace training.

A leash does not help much if your dog panics at the end of it. A crate is not useful if your dog fights it every time the door closes. A microchip matters, but it does not stop a dog from bolting through an open door during a storm. An emergency bag is smart, but it does not teach your dog how to load into a car, settle in a strange room, tolerate handling, or come when called.

This article is for the owner who wants to be prepared without turning life into a survival manual. Emergencies do not wait until your dog is calm, rested, and paying attention. The skills need to be built before the stressful moment arrives.

Bruno learned how to hit pause

Congratulations to Bruno on graduating from his board and train program today. This high-energy dog worked on becoming more reliable with his commands, building impulse control, and understanding boundaries around unwanted behaviors.

Impulse control was a big lesson for Bruno, and he showed up for it. He passed with flying colors and made his family proud.

Today is all about celebrating the big personalities packed into those short little legs. Corgis may be small, but anyone who knows one knows they come with confidence, attitude, and plenty of opinions.

Fun fact: Corgis were originally bred to herd cattle, and their short legs helped them stay low enough to avoid kicks while working.

Coal went from tuned out to checked in

Coal came in with his owner joking, “Sometimes I think he is deaf,” because this young French Bulldog had zero interest in listening. Once we found what motivated him, Coal started locking in.

After three weeks of our board and train program, he is walking politely on leash, coming when called, and keeping all four paws on the floor when greeting people.

Time flies when it is spent with incredible animals. Tigger and Joy returned home, each a little better from their time away.

Joy in particular still has a road ahead as she learns to see the world as an adventure instead of a threat, but her kindness, her family’s support, and the foundation built during training have her moving in the right direction.
