Dogs have been trained to perform a large number of practical functions including search and rescue, herding livestock, guarding, explosive or drug detection, disability assistance, dogs have also been trained to perform recreational functions, including companionship, shooting assistance.

Dog training ALWAYS involves basic obedience training to establish control over the animal, and only then can you both progress to more advanced specialist training. Basic obedience training includes teaching a dog=

Recall training – teaching the dog to come on command
Sitting training – teaching the dog to sit on command
Walking or heeling training – teaching the dog to walk on or off the lead with the handler
Staying training – teaching the dog not to stray on command
Sociability training – teaching the dog not to be aggressive to humans, other dogs, or other animals.

Some breeds do better than others at some things, I guess some things just come naturally to some.

What can you and your dog do together as a team?

***Crate training***
The process of teaching a pet to accept a dog crate or cage as a familiar and safe location. Advocates claim that dogs are den-dwelling animals and that a crate can become a den substitute. Regardless, most puppies can learn to tolerate crate training if it is introduced properly. The initial stress from being confined can give way to "increased feelings of security, safety, and comfort" after repeated exposure to the crate. Long-term or excessive crate confinement "may lead to emotional and behavioral deterioration over time." On the other hand, if properly done, crate training can play a major role in housebreaking a dog as fast as possible. Ordinarily, it is seen as a way of confining a dog and restricting its movement and freedom. However, crate training can help dogs gain full bowel and bladder control while enjoying treats and comfort. If crate training is not taken seriously, the dog may start soiling around the house.
