National Gun Violence National Gun Violence Month
June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the impact of gun violence and recognize the ongoing efforts to keep our communities safe.
Recently, Kentwood Police Officers were dispatched to a weapons complaint involving several individuals. Upon officers' arrival, the suspects fled the area on foot. Officers quickly established a perimeter and began searching for those involved while continuing the investigation.
As part of the search efforts, K9 Frank and his handler, Officer Beelen, were deployed to conduct an article search of the area. Utilizing Frank's specialized training, the team successfully located a firearm that had been discarded and concealed.
This recovery highlights the value of teamwork, training, and specialized resources. From the patrol officers who responded to the initial call, to K9 Frank and Officer Beelen's diligent search efforts, every member involved played a critical role in removing a firearm from the community and advancing the investigation.
As we recognize National Gun Violence Awareness Month, the Kentwood Police Department remains committed to proactively addressing illegal firearm activity, holding offenders accountable, and working with our community to create safer neighborhoods for everyone.
