🐾✈️ Traveling with Your Pet? Vacation Tips for a Safe & Happy Trip! 🐾🌴
Vacation season is here, and many pets get to join the adventure! Before you hit the road, the team at Koch Veterinary Services recommends a little preparation to help keep your pet happy, healthy, and safe while traveling.
🌟 Tips for Traveling with Pets:
• Pack the essentials – Bring your pet’s food, medications, leash, waste bags, and a favorite toy or blanket for comfort.
• Stick to their routine – Try to keep feeding and walking times as consistent as possible to reduce stress.
• Plan pet-friendly stops – Regular breaks allow your pet to stretch, hydrate, and use the bathroom.
• Keep pets safely secured – Use a carrier, crate, or pet seatbelt while traveling.
• Never leave pets in a parked car – Temperatures can rise quickly, even on mild days.
🔎 Don’t Forget Identification!
Making sure your pet has proper identification is one of the most important travel safety steps you can take. ID tags and Pet Microchipping greatly increase the chances of being reunited with your pet if you become separated. Microchips provide a permanent form of identification that shelters and veterinary clinics can scan to help bring your pet back home.
🐶🐱 Before you travel, it’s also a good idea to confirm that your pet’s microchip information is up to date with your current phone number and contact details.
Wherever your travels take you, we hope you and your furry companions have a wonderful and safe vacation! 🌞🐾

🚴‍♀️🐾 Happy World Bicycle Day from Koch Veterinary Services! 🐾🚴‍♂️

Many dogs love joining their owners for a bike ride, but it's important to make safety the top priority before hitting the trail.

Here are a few tips to keep your canine cycling companion safe:

🐕 Know your dog's limits. Not every dog is built for running alongside a bicycle. Age, breed, fitness level, and health conditions all play a role.

💧 Bring plenty of water. Dogs can overheat quickly, especially during warm weather. Offer frequent water breaks and watch for signs of heat exhaustion.

🦮 Use proper equipment. Consider a bicycle attachment designed specifically for dogs rather than holding a leash in your hand. This can help improve stability and reduce the risk of accidents.

🌡️ Check the pavement. Hot asphalt can burn paw pads. If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet's feet.

🐾 Start slow. If your dog is new to running beside a bike, begin with short, slow rides to help them learn the routine safely.

🚦 Stay alert. Watch for traffic, wildlife, other pets, and obstacles that could cause your dog to suddenly change direction.

🛑 Know when to stop. Excessive panting, lagging behind, limping, or reluctance to continue are signs your dog needs a break—or that the ride should end.

Not every pet enjoys running beside a bicycle, and that's okay! Some may be happier in a pet trailer or enjoying a leisurely walk instead.

Have a wonderful World Bicycle Day, and wherever your adventures take you, make sure they're safe and enjoyable for every member of the family—two-legged and four-legged alike! ❤️🐶

🐾🏁 Happy National Greyhound Day! 🏁🐾
Today we celebrate National Greyhound Day and these incredible dogs known for their speed, elegance, and surprisingly gentle personalities.
The Greyhound is one of the fastest dog breeds in the world, capable of reaching speeds of up to 45 mph! But despite their reputation as racing dogs, many greyhounds are actually quite calm and love nothing more than lounging on a comfy couch—earning them the nickname “45-mph couch potatoes.”
At Koch Veterinary Services, we love celebrating all breeds and the unique qualities that make them special.
✨ Fun Greyhound Facts:
• They are one of the oldest dog breeds, with history dating back thousands of years.
• Greyhounds have excellent eyesight and are known as sighthounds because they hunt by sight rather than scent.
• Despite their speed, many greyhounds are gentle, quiet, and affectionate companions.
🐶 Today is a great day to appreciate these graceful pups—and if you have a greyhound at home, give them an extra comfy spot on the couch and a few extra ear scratches!
📸 Share a photo of your greyhound (or any speedy pup) in the comments!

🐾📅 National Pet Preparedness Month 📅🐾
June is National Pet Preparedness Month, a great reminder to take a little time to make sure you’re prepared for your pet’s everyday needs and unexpected situations.
At Koch Veterinary Services, we encourage pet owners to think ahead so caring for your pet is as smooth and stress-free as possible.
✨ Simple Ways to Stay Prepared:
• Keep a few extra days of food and medications on hand.
• Make sure your pet’s ID tags and microchip information are up to date.
• Have a carrier or leash easily accessible for trips or appointments.
• Keep a recent photo of your pet saved on your phone.
• Store vaccination and medical records somewhere easy to find.
Being a little prepared can make vet visits, travel, and unexpected situations much easier for both you and your pet.
🐶🐱 Taking a few minutes now can make a big difference later!

🐾💦 Safety First with Fifi the Frenchie! 💦🐾
Fifi the Frenchie is enjoying a cool dip, but it’s a great reminder that pool safety is important for pets too! While some dogs love the water, swimming can come with a few risks—especially for certain breeds.
At Koch Veterinary Services, we want to share a few tips to help keep your pets safe around pools this summer.
🏊‍♂️ Swimming Safety Tips:
• Always supervise your pet around the pool—never assume they can swim safely on their own.
• Know your pet’s limits. Some breeds, especially short-nosed (brachycephalic) dogs like Frenchies, can tire quickly in the water.
• Provide an easy exit. Make sure your pet knows where the steps or ramp are so they can get out of the pool safely.
• Consider a pet life jacket if your dog isn’t a strong swimmer.
• Provide fresh drinking water so pets aren’t tempted to drink pool water.
🛁 After-Swim Care:
• Rinse your pet off with clean water to remove chlorine or salt.
• Dry ears well to help prevent ear infections.
• Check skin folds (especially for breeds like Frenchies) and dry them thoroughly to prevent irritation.
A little preparation goes a long way in making pool time fun and safe for everyone—including your furry friends!
🐶💬 Does your pet enjoy swimming, or are they more of a “stay on the deck” kind of pup? Share in the comments!

🐾😺 Kitten Tips: Let Them Climb, Scratch, and Explore! 😺🐾
Kittens are little bundles of energy and curiosity, and providing them with plenty of climbing and scratching areas is not just fun—it’s essential for their health and happiness.
✨ Why Climbing & Scratching Matters:
• Exercise & Muscle Development: Jumping and climbing keeps their muscles strong and helps prevent obesity.
• Mental Stimulation: Kittens are smart and curious—exploring vertical spaces and new textures keeps their minds active.
• Stress Relief & Territory Marking: Scratching helps them stretch, release pent-up energy, and mark their territory safely (instead of your furniture!).
• Safe Outlet for Energy: Having dedicated areas reduces unwanted behaviors like climbing curtains or scratching sofas.
🏠 Tips for Your Kitten:
• Cat Trees & Shelves: Provide vertical spaces to climb and perch—kittens love high vantage points.
• Scratching Posts & Pads: Offer a variety of textures (carpet, sisal, cardboard) in different locations.
• Interactive Play: Combine climbing and scratching with toys that encourage pouncing and chasing.
• Safe Exploration: Make sure climbing areas are sturdy and won’t tip over.
Kittens who have safe outlets for their natural behaviors grow up to be healthy, confident, and happy cats—and your furniture stays intact too!
💬 Tip for cat parents: Rotate toys and move scratching posts around to keep your kitten engaged and curious.

🐾😎 Petunia the Pug Here with Summer Safety Tips! 😎🐾
Hey fur-friends, it’s your favorite wrinkly face, Petunia the Pug, coming at you with some important advice for all my short-nosed, smooshy-faced pals—aka brachycephalic dogs—as the weather heats up! 🌞🐶
Because of our unique face shape, we’re extra prone to overheating, so staying cool is super important. Here’s how to keep summer fun and safe:
🌡️ Hot Weather Tips for Brachycephalic Breeds:
• Avoid peak heat: Walks and outdoor play are best early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler.
• Keep it shady: Always provide shaded areas and plenty of cool water.
• Never leave us in the car: Even a few minutes in a hot car can be dangerous.
• Use cooling accessories: Cooling mats, vests, and fans can help us beat the heat.
• Watch for signs of overheating: Heavy panting, drooling, lethargy, or unsteady walking are warning signs—get us somewhere cool and call the vet if needed.
• Keep weight in check: Extra pounds make it harder for us to stay cool.
Remember, we may be adorable, but our smooshy faces need a little extra love during summer months! ☀️💦
💬 Got a brachycephalic buddy at home? Share a pic of them keeping cool this summer!

🐾🐱 Loki’s First Visit! 🐱🐾
Loki recently had her very first visit with Koch Veterinary Services, and she did a great job! Sometimes the veterinary office can feel a little scary for our feline friends, but there are simple ways to help them feel safer and more comfortable.
One thing that helped Loki was being gently wrapped in a soft towel. Many cats feel more secure when they’re snug and covered, which can help reduce stress during their exam.
✨ Tips to Help Your Cat Feel More Comfortable at the Vet:
• Bring a familiar blanket or towel from home that smells like them (or you). Familiar scents can be very calming.
• Place soft bedding in the carrier so your kitty has a cozy place to rest.
• Add a favorite toy for comfort.
• Use a sturdy carrier that allows your cat to feel secure and protected.
• Cover the carrier with a light blanket or towel during travel to reduce visual stress.
• Leave the carrier out at home between vet visits so your cat sees it as a normal, safe space instead of something scary.
Small steps like these can make a big difference in helping cats have a more relaxed veterinary experience.
Great job, Loki! We loved meeting you and look forward to seeing you again. 💜🐾
