Red-light therapy in combination with a massage is a great combination to help improve your horse’s muscular and skeletal health. Some of the benefits include:

➡️Increased circulation of blood flow and lymphatic drainage
➡️Release tension and reduce pain
➡️Improve mental wellbeing
➡️Infared wavelengths reach deep tissues and speed up cellular repair in the muscles, bones, and joints. ( remember the mitochondria is the power house of the cell)
➡️Improved posture and performance

In addition if your horse has kissing spine this is a great addition to their rehab or maintenance care plan. The release of muscle tension and relaxation of the core muscles help open up space between the vertebrae.
I hope to post some videos soon of some Masterson method techniques that can help horses with kissing spine and general tension in the horse’s top-line.

Last week we unfortunately had to say goodbye to an important member of our team . Rocky was my mom’s dog that I was starting to do red-light therapy on and massage as I progressed in my class. Always a willing participant if given enough cookies or stealing them behind your back in true Rocky fashion as the household sass man.
Dearly missed Oct 2013-Aug 2026🤍
Thank you all for your support

Let’s build off of last week and look at some postural differences in pelvic and limb positioning after taping and a session of red/infared light therapy.

What I noticed:
➡️Change in limb position to a wider and more square stance for better hind end support
➡️ Pelvic position is more rounded
➡️Tail is more relaxed which tells me his top-line is more comfortable
➡️Transverse abdominal muscle has significantly reduced visible tension

Helping correct the pelvic position improves performance and gets rid of compensations. Better posture means better muscling and better performance while feeling their best .

Gluteal muscles are essential to hind end movement. These muscles convert energy into mechanical force. Essentially allowing the horse to move forward.

Some horses don’t really know where there hind end is. Using this tape allows them realize that and have better engagement of the hind end. Which in turn helps the muscles that the gluteus medius works with :
➡️bicep femoris
➡️hamstrings
➡️sacroiliac stabilizers

The changes you may see include improved pelvic and limb posture as well as pain relief if lameness is involved and a happier horse as the tape provides relief.

A big thank you to the Author of “Stick with Success Equine Functional Taping Made Simple” Rebecca Haddock . This was a great help to understanding how this method of taping helps not just the focus area but the muscles around it as well .

First sessions are not always pretty. Sometimes the horse is confused at first and being calm and open to “conversation” is a big part of making their first session be enjoyable and productive.

Over the series of videos you can see Jack soften more and more as the session continues. Even at his most rambunctious moments he takes a second to soften and think. Is he by definition being bad , no he is communicating with me on which areas are the worst while most of the time being respectful as he starts to understand I’m there to help. It’s important to note the differences of impatience and ‘vocalizing’ tension.

All horses are willing to have a conversation if you are patient enough to listen.

I love to see when clients also give their senior horses a spa day.
There are plenty of benefits to massage for both performance horses as well as retirees. Including…
-Improving muscle tone in underused areas
-Releasing endorphins
-Improved circulation
And much more

Some Sunday R and R. Watch my horse melt into his red-light session.

Red-light therapy works great on joints. Whether they are arthritic, stiff from working, or recovering from an injury. This noninvasive therapy is great at reducing inflammation and kickstarting cellular repair in muscles, bones, tendons, and ligaments.

Optimal results are seen if done for 10-20 minutes 3-5 times a week depending on the reason for the session.

The vet I work for part time has brought an interesting case my way.
This sweet mare has EPM and is on a closely monitored veterinary rehab plan. As always her quality of life is our top priority and she is currently on medication for EPM and her condition has improved immensely since she arrived.

Due to her EPM she presented with muscle wasting on her left masseter muscle and I have been able to start red light therapy to help repair the muscle, reduce inflammation, and alleviate stress that can be seen in horses with chronic illnesses.

‼️This is not a cure by any means , it’s meant to supplement her veterinary care and give her the best outcome possible‼️
