Please join us in welcoming Dr. Jennifer Garofalo to Camp Hill Animal Hospital and Susquehanna Valley Veterinary Clinic!
We’re excited to have Dr. Garofalo as part of our team and wanted to share one of her recent surgical successes.
Loki was diagnosed with a thyroid mass located in a very delicate area of the neck, surrounded by critical structures including the carotid artery and jugular vein. These procedures require meticulous planning and precision, and we’re thrilled to report that the surgery was a success!
Thank you to Loki’s family for allowing us to share these photos and celebrate this special case.
We’re proud to have Dr. Garofalo on our team and look forward to the exceptional care she’ll continue to provide for our patients and their families.

Its a scorcher out there, we know we just posted something the other day about the heat but its worth mentioning again! 🥵🥵🥵

🥵🌡️ EXTREME HEAT WARNING: Protect Your Pets! 🐾

When the heat index climbs, it isn’t just uncomfortable—it can be life-threatening for our pets. Dogs and cats can’t cool themselves like we do, and even a few minutes in extreme heat can lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Keep your pets safe by following these tips:
🐶 Keep them indoors in air conditioning whenever possible.
💧 Provide fresh, cool water at all times.
🌳 Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are lower.
🔥 Avoid hot pavement—it can burn paw pads in seconds.
🚗 Never leave a pet in a parked vehicle, even with the windows cracked.
🏖️ Limit strenuous exercise and offer frequent breaks in the shade.

Know the warning signs of heat stroke:
• Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
• Bright red or pale gums
• Excessive drooling
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Weakness, staggering, or collapse
• Confusion or unresponsiveness

⚠️ Heat stroke is a medical emergency. If you suspect your pet is overheating, move them to a cool area, offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water, begin cooling them with cool towels, and seek veterinary care immediately.

Its a heatwave this week! Please be careful out there...

Protecting your pets from the summer heat involves more than providing shade and water. It's crucial to consider all aspects of their environment and behavior during warmer weather. Keeping these tips in mind can help your pet stay cool and comfortable:

* Hydration is key! Ensure constant access to fresh water to prevent dehydration. Placing multiple water stations around your home and even adding ice cubes can encourage your pets to drink more frequently.

* Slather on the sunscreen. Sun protection isn’t just for humans! Some pets, particularly those with short or light-colored coats, can burn in the hot summer sun, which can lead to skin cancer. They’ll need protection from harmful UV rays, especially on exposed areas like the tips of their ears and nose. Not all sunscreens are made for pets, though, so make sure whatever you’re using is pet-safe.

* Move indoors. During periods of extreme heat, bring any outdoor pets indoors to a more comfortable environment.

* Create a cool environment. Use a combination of ceiling fans, box fans, and air conditioning to effectively cool your living space. Contain the cool air by closing doors and drawing curtains during the day to block out sunlight. Offering a damp towel or a cooling mat can also provide immediate relief from the heat.

* Offer shady retreats. Ensure your pets have access to cool, shady spots, especially if they spend time near sunlit windows or enclosed porches.
Change up the activity level. Adjust your pet's exercise routine to avoid the midday heat. Early morning or late evening are ideal times for physical activity if you’re going to be outdoors.

* Never leave your pet in a hot car. A closed car can reach temperatures of over one hundred degrees within minutes of sitting in the sun, which can be detrimental to your pet’s health.

* Watch for heatstroke. Be vigilant for signs of heatstroke such as excessive panting or lethargy and respond promptly.
