PSA: Please…if you decide to have your deer caped out and put in the freezer and bring it to me at a later date…don’t leave allot of neck meat on the cape and don’t skin it or place it in rocks.
Neck meat takes forever to thaw! The hide below will thaw much faster than where the neck was left in allowing bacteria to start back and causing possible slipping. Take it off as close to the jaw as possible…tell that to your processor if you take to one.
Rocks on the inner meat and fat of the hide will cause major damage to the tanneries fleshing machines. If your skinning gimbal is over rock place a tarp, plywood, cardboard, anything under the deer to stop rocks from sticking to the inner portion of the cape.
Thanks so much!
