If you’re in the Harlem, GA area this weekend, please come out and say hello to Ozzie! For those who don’t know, Ozzie recently had his right wing amputated due to a very large cancerous tumor. He is still recovering but we will have him out for visitors to meet on Saturday and Sunday! We would love to share his entire story with you all and let you meet this sweet blue and gold macaw who is one heck of a fighter! And while you’re here, visit with the rest of our flock.

We offer guided golf cart tours and are open to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. by donation. Hope to see you soon!!

Another Ozzie update

As you can see, Ozzie is recovering beautifully following his right wing amputation. He is not a fan of his post op antibiotics, but who would be?! We are so proud of how well he is adapting!

Ozzie update

Today was bandage removal day for sweet Ozzie. So far, he has only been cleaning the area but we will closely monitor him to make sure he doesn’t pick at it. There is some bruising but overall, the area looks great! He is adapting very well and is showing a lot of appreciation for our help.

It’s hard to trust humans when they’ve let you down in the past. Ozzie’s condition didn’t happen overnight. His tumor had been growing for a long time and I can’t imagine how much pain he was in. He now has some relief and is learning that humans can be loving and trustworthy.

OZZIE UPDATE

We are pleased to announce that Ozzie is on his way back to the rescue following his right wing amputation today. He is alert and doing well!
A special thank you to volunteers Michael and DJ for making the trip to SC with Ozzie and to volunteer Britney for giving them a place to stay. We are so grateful for our dedicated volunteers who always put our flock first!!

WARNING: Some viewers may find these images disturbing and they will likely break your heart.

Meet Ozzie, a very sweet Blue & Gold Macaw that was brought to us with a huge abscess on his right wing. Initially, he was treated for infection in the wing but after several vet visits, X-rays and a lot of tests, it was determined that Ozzie has a very large cancerous tumor. Tomorrow, he will undergo a right wing amputation. Prayers and well wishes will be greatly appreciated! We will give updates on Ozzie’s condition as he recovers.

As you can imagine, this procedure and Ozzie’s recovery will put a financial strain on the rescue so we are asking for your help! We have updated our Amazon wishlist (link below) with items we are in low supply of. PLEASE help out if you can!
