Sharing with our community in hopes that this might be an answer to prayer.

We are looking for a flat platform wheelchair stair lift for inside our home for our children who use wheelchairs.

The cost of a new installation is around $10,000 to $18,000, which is a bit overwhelming, not including any electrical work needed also.

Once our farm sells, we already plan to purchase a wheelchair accessible van for Allen and cover Jaime’s adoption expenses, along with the many other needs that come with being a large medical and special needs family. If we can find a used lift and save some money, it would make a huge difference.

If anyone has one they no longer need, knows of one available, or has any leads, we would be so grateful.

I am absolutely horrified reading comments like this.

The idea that a person should be institutionalized simply because they are disabled, incontinent, or require significant care is not only cruel, it ignores decades of progress in how we treat people with disabilities.

My children, and countless others with special needs, are not burdens. They are human beings deserving of dignity, love, respect, and a place in their families and communities.

Many individuals with disabilities have medical conditions that affect bowel and bladder control. That does not make them less valuable. It does not make them unworthy of living at home. It does not mean they should be hidden away from society.

What truly disgusts me is not a disability. It is the lack of compassion shown in comments like these.

Caring for someone with complex needs can be challenging, but love is not measured by convenience. Families across the world provide extraordinary care every day because their children, whether they are 5, 25, or 55, are family.

Every person deserves to be treated with humanity and respect. We have come too far as a society to accept the mindset that disabled individuals belong in institutions simply because they need help with daily living.

Do better. Be kinder. Remember that the people being discussed are someone’s child, sibling, friend, or loved one. Most importantly, they are people.
