Did you know a black light can help us detect ringworm?

Despite its name, ringworm isn't actually a worm—it's a contagious fungal infection that can spread between pets and even to people.

Certain species of the fungus that cause ringworm produce a bright apple-green fluorescence under the Wood's lamp, making infected hairs easier to spot. While not every case of ringworm will glow, this simple, non-invasive tool is a helpful part of the diagnostic process and can guide us in choosing samples for additional testing.

If you notice circular patches of hair loss, scaling, or redness on your pet, it's always a good idea to have them examined. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent it from spreading to other pets and family members. 🐱💚
