We founded our group in honor of a dear little dachshund named Sophia Grace. Sophia was a sweet little 12-year old dachshund who was rescued from a situation where she spent all her life without receiving any medical care. When she came into rescue she was severely malnourished, sickly and had to have nearly all her teeth pulled. Through the "Grace" of so many selfless contributors we were able to

get her the medical care that she so badly needed, and had been denied all her 12 years on earth. Sophia Grace lived out her final years in her forever home in Michigan where she thrived and grew stronger each day. It is in her honor that we founded our organization, and we will honor her with every dachshund we are able to help now and for many years to come!

🕶️ THE GLOW UP IS REAL: From Shaved Stray to Handsome Stud

They told me I used to be a street-wandering, terribly matted mess in York, PA. They had to shave me completely down. I looked… aerodynamic. Scandalous, even.

But look at me now. The glow up is officially in motion. I’m transitioning from "unidentified scruffy stray" to absolute handsome stud. 🤩 Just wait until the full fluff arrives—you won't even recognize me. 😏

🔎 Perimeter Patrol is a Full-Time Job
When I am outside, I have a very strict schedule to maintain. I am currently tracking two high-profile targets in the yard:
🐿️ Squirrels: Criminal masterminds.
🐇 Bunnies: Too fast, entirely too smug.
I have never caught one. But I will try. Every. Single. Day.

💙 Behind the Future Fluff: Get to Know Patrick
I'm an active, 3-year-old Maltese mix living my best life in Walkersville, MD, but I'm ready for my permanent retirement couch. Here is my official resume:

First Impressions:
I might bark when we first meet. I warm up slow, but once you're in, I love 💗 big. 💗
Yard Management: When the weather is nice, I run the yard like I own the place (I don't, but I pretend).

Meet Steve. 🐾

In March, he wandered into a stranger’s yard—no collar, no microchip, and no family looking for him. After a placement that wasn’t quite the right fit, he found his way into the arms of his foster mom. That is the exact moment his life began to change.

Today, Steve is fully vetted. He’s been neutered, had extensive dental work, and his ear and eye infections are finally healed. For the first time in a very long time, Steve is living completely pain-free—and you can see it in his gentle, quiet, and incredibly easygoing spirit. ✨

Steve’s world is a little quieter than ours; he has significant hearing loss, so his future family will need to be his eyes and ears, keeping him safe and learning to communicate through touch and love rather than words. He also experiences some minor urinary dribbling, but it’s a small detail in a beautifully resilient life.

Because here is the truest thing about Steve: ❤️he is pure goodness. ❤️

He has impeccable manners—no jumping, no licking. He walks like a dream on a leash, cherishes his time outside, and is fully house-trained. He absolutely adores other small dogs (especially his dachshund foster siblings) and gentle humans. He rarely barks, only speaking up softly when he misses you or wants to come indoors. And despite everything he’s been through, his capacity to trust is breathtaking. He will sit peacefully in your lap even while receiving his ear cleanings and eye drops.

Someone loved Steve once. And looking into his sweet eyes, you can tell he is more than ready to love again.

The very nature of animal rescue transport creates some risk for those who participate; even a good-natured animal may find it stressful to be passed from stranger to stranger, meeting unfamiliar animals, and therefore may act in uncharacteristic ways. Neither the rescue, the transport coordination team or anyone else associated with SGF can accept liability for any accidents or incidents that may occur during the transport. By agreeing to transport you acknowledge that risks are involved and agree not to hold anyone involved responsible should an incident occur. We cannot be held responsible by any party for damages, loss of property, or reimbursement of costs. All drivers are responsible for maintaining a valid state government issued driver’s license and vehicle insurance.

✨ Meet Raina — the little dachshund who refused to give up! ✨

Raina came to us after being surrendered by an Ohio breeder following a spinal injury she sustained while giving birth. She arrived unable to use her rear legs. But this girl? She had other plans.

After just a few weeks of electro-acupuncture and laser therapy with a special Integrative Veterinarian, Raina stood up on all four legs. Foster mom says her middle name should be “Miracle” — and honestly, we agree. 🥹 Now it’s early June and she’s been walking on her own for quite some time. She even tries to run with the other dogs in the yard! 🐾

Raina came from a breeder environment with very little human socialization, toys, or touch. The confident, playful dogs in her foster home helped her break out of her shell in the best way. Now she carries her stuffed toys around when she’s excited, has discovered she has a voice (good morning, everyone! 🐶), and is a perfect backseat passenger on car rides.

She’s looking for a home that can offer:
🏡 A quiet, patient environment to decompress
🐾 At least one well-adjusted, social small breed dog with a gentle play style — no dominance or resource guarding
🩺 A human familiar or experienced with IVDD, and access to a vet offering acupuncture/laser therapy should it ever be needed
💛 Patience, compassion, and time

Raina is on no medication — just an herbal supplement from her Integrative Vet. She is spayed, crate trained, and ready to find her forever home.

Twelve years ago, a sweet, shy dachshund with soulful eyes left our rescue on the best kind of mission: to find his person. 🐾🌭

We heard the news that sweet Oscar has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Our hearts ache with hers. But then she sent us photos of her nursery… and guys, we’re not crying, you’re crying. 😭💕

A wall (and room) full of dachshunds. A little we**ie dog basket. Dachshund rocking chair toy. And Oscar’s collar resting nearby, keeping watch over her first baby. Photos of Oscar still need to be added.

That’s the thing about rescue love — it doesn't end when they leave. It grows. It moves with you. It shows up in crib mobiles and onesies and in the way you love something small and fierce forever. 🕊️👶🏼

Thank you for giving Oscar 12 beautiful years. And thank you for showing us that a rescue dog’s legacy can be… a whole new beginning.
