Pemi the Hiking Therapy Dog Pemi is a retired certified therapy dog who worked with her mom through Pet Partners, Inc. She is also retired from long-distance hiking.

At 10 years old, Pemi is taking it easy these days, enjoying short walks and plenty of time with her family. Pemi is a five-year-old Chocolate Labrador Retriever. Her name comes from the Pemigewasset Wilderness in the White Mountains of New Hampshire where she hikes regularly with her Dad. She routinely makes a lot of new friends on the trail and is a frequent subject of social media posts. Pemi hiked all 48 of New Hampshire’s highest mountains and is an official member of the AMC 4000 Footer Club. She is currently helping her mom complete her 48.

🐾 A New Chapter for Pemi

After many years of working alongside her mom, Pemi has officially retired from her job as a therapy dog.

For years, Pemi and her mom were a certified animal-assisted intervention (AAI) team through Pet Partners, Inc. Together, they visited schools, nursing homes, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and other settings where Pemi’s calm presence and friendly personality could make a difference.

Pemi used to go to school with her mom, too, and that was a favorite part of her job. As things changed over the years, though, it became harder to find opportunities for her to continue that work in the school setting. At 10 years old, Pemi has decided it is time to officially hang up her therapy dog vest.

These days, she is taking life at a much slower pace, enjoying short walks, plenty of rest, and time with her family. She may be retired, but she is still kind, intuitive, and always ready to say hello to a new friend. ❤️🐾
