Heeeeeey! Guess what??Now's the time to save the date for our big Fall gardening kick off sale!

For two days, you’ll get the chance to shop our certified organic plants and celebrate the start of our favorite growing season 🍂

📌 WHEN: Friday, September 18-Saturday, September 19 | 9:00am-2:00pm

Got slugs?!

Lowcountry summers typically come with abundant rains and that also means more slugs! A slug's body is 80% water and without a protective shell, they're highly susceptible to drying out, which is why they come out after rain to roam and forage.

But we don't want them munching on our plants, so consider the following solutions to deter slugs from your gardens:

🐌 Scattering coffee grounds, crushed eggshells, diatomaceous earth or course mulch around base of plants (refresh after it rains)
🐌 Cover the base of your stems by cutting a 3-5" slit long-way through a portion of paper tube. Bury the cardboard slightly into soil to secure and enclose the base stem of your vulnerable plants

Whew!! Summertime in the garden can be challenging here in the Lowcountry. Heat, humidity, pests, disease...overgrown vines giving a particular jungle vibe...it can be pretty overwhelming out there 😅

Is your basil looking less than great? Leaves turning yellow and brown and falling off the plant? It might not be stress or nutrient deficiency, but the start of Basil Downy Mildew (BDM) 😬

BDM is a disease that spreads rapidly and can take out your whole basil plant. Check out our tips to make sure you have healthy, abundant basil all summer long! 🌱

We’ve reached the end of another season (now in our 15th year!) and we wanted to send a huge appreciation to our community for supporting Rita’s Roots 💚

When you shop with us —whether it’s directly at our nursery, at one of our in-person sales in Charleston or Savannah, or online— you’re supporting a team of passionate gardening professionals who are able to make a living wage and care for themselves and their families.

We love y'all and can't wait to be back at it in a couple months 🙌

In case you missed our Heat Loving Plant Sale over the weekend, we’ve opened up the online store until midnight Wednesday, 6/3 🌱

🍠 Plant between now and early July.
🍠 Ours are sold 4 slips per pot - be sure to separate the slips at planting!
🍠 Plant in full sun and loose soil (tolerant of sandy/poor soils).
🍠 Do not fertilize! They prefer poor soils and will grow abundant leaves and stringy roots if over-fertilized!
