Everyone knows of someone who feeds community cats but has no ability to spay and neuter them and “doesn’t know what to do with them or how to help them”. Shelters are full and there are limited resources.
We have been considering trying to start up a “Barn Cat Network” here locally to us in Yadkin, Surry, Wilkes and other surrounding counties.
Our rescue pulls unsocialized cats from shelters so they don’t have to be euthanized. We vaccinate them, medicate them if needed, and spay/neuter them.
These cats are cats that have never been in a home and have no interest in being in one. They like to roam and be on their own.
We are trying to find people who would be willing to have these cats come and live on their property. The cats keep unwanted pests away and in exchange can be fed dry food to help them supplement their hunts.
Since they are fixed, there will not be a growing cat problem.
If you have a farm or chicken houses or other areas that would be good for cats such as this, please reach out. We need more places that we can let out our unsocialized cats.
If this takes off, we would like to partner with the shelters and help create more options for TNR around our counties.
