This is a rare informative "blog post" moment, but stick with me—if my daily struggle helps even one person out there, it's worth it!

We recently welcomed two new kittens to the family. This absolute unit here is named Dale. Dale is pushing 9 pounds already, and he has a single, terrifying morning goal: sprinting at breakneck speed to steal Sprout’s dog food the exact microsecond it hits the bowl.

Yes, I feed them in completely different areas. No, Dale does not respect my authority, my floor plan, or basic boundaries. 😅

You might be asking: Why not just surrender, give up the fight, and let the cat eat the dog food?

Besides the fact that Sprout looks at him like a mugging victim, there’s a massive medical reason cats can’t live on dog food: taurine.

Taurine is an essential amino acid that cats literally cannot manufacture in their own bodies (unlike dogs and humans, who make it automatically). Cats have to eat it, which is why actual cat food is packed with it. Without enough taurine, a cat’s heart muscles weaken (leading to severe heart failure) and they can literally go blind.

So while dog food works in a "we got snowed in and I ran out of cat food for 12 hours" emergency, it lacks the main fuel a cat needs to survive long-term. Dale thinks he's pulling off the heist of the century, but his 9-pound body needs proper cat fuel.

As for Dale and his brother's long-term career path? These boys are our future barn cats! They are already on the calendar to get neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped soon, after which they will officially transition to their outdoor living quarters—where stealing Sprout’s breakfast won't be an option anymore.

Now, I already know outdoor cats can trigger a heated comment section. I know some folks swear by Rat Terriers for barn duty, and I know the debates about local bird populations. But we’ve made the best choice for our property and these boys, and it’s not up for group committee debate! Just rest easy knowing we’re doing our part to make sure they're fully fixed, healthy, and not out there producing endless grand-kittens.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go physically wrestle a 9-pound kitten away from a dog bowl for the sixth time today. 🛑🐈‍⬛🥊

Big shoutout to the Hamilton High School band families getting ready for Disney World! 🏰🎺

Thanks to your amazing planning, I am officially 100% fully booked for pet sitting from December 25th through January 1st!
While you guys are standing in 120-minute ride lines and fighting off aggressive seagulls for a overpriced funnel cake, I’ll be back home holding down the couch with your fur babies. Pretty sure I got the sweeter end of this deal! 🐶🍿

I'm so thankful for such fantastic clients! If you need pet care for other upcoming dates, don't sleep on it—my remaining availability is shrinking faster than a puddle in Florida!

📩 Send me a message to grab your dates before they’re gone!

Every once in awhile Sprout and I can become domesticated and walk in a public place. But public places mean gentle lead and minding our manners!

Current houseguest appreciation post: Miss Quinn is back! 🌲🐾

Before running Into the Woods, I worked in the breeding department for a service dog non-profit, so I’m always analyzing dog temperaments and genetic traits.

Quinn is a Lab/Golden cross—a classic combination used heavily in the service world for its incredible working potential.

Quinn is living proof of why that mix works so well. She hits the ultimate sweet spot: gentle and intuitive like a Golden Retriever, but motivated and sharp like a Labrador.

Whether you’re team rescue or team ethical breeder (we happily host both around here!), you have to appreciate a dog that turns out this good. We’re so glad to have this sweet girl back in our care! 🐶✨"

Welcome back Quinn! We are so happy to have you back again!

I made this video because ask all my clients to be fully vaccinated to stay with me. I think it's equally important to share that I hold the same standards for the animals in my own household.

Morning Movement Looks Different for Every Dog! 🌿🐾

Who says exercise has to mean marching at a brisk pace on a tight leash?

During our yard time, every pup gets to move in the way that suits them best. Sniffing and exploring at a gentle pace gives senior pups like Annie fantastic mental stimulation and low-impact movement. Meanwhile, sweet Bailey gets her steps in following along, practicing gentle movement, and enjoying plenty of praise!

Tailoring activity to each dog's age, comfort level, and personality ensures everyone stays safe, happy, and well-exercised while in my care. ❤️

Welcome to the pack, Bailey and Annie! 🐾✨
I’m lucky enough to have these two gorgeous girls—Bailey the Golden Retriever and Annie the Beagle—in my care for the next few days. With the weather finally cooling down, we’re planning to make the absolute most of it with lots of sunshine, outdoor play, and tail wags! ☀️🐶

Sometimes the best training opportunities happen when you least expect them! 🐾🌱

We’ve walked past this neighborhood driveway plenty of times, but today, Sprout and Booker noticed a new "stranger" sitting under the trees: a fake goose lawn statue. 🪿✨

To us, it’s just lawn decor. To a dog, a new, motionless shape in a familiar spot can be strange and even intimidating! Rather than rushing past or forcing an interaction, the key here was patience and social learning:

- Slow Down: Allow dogs time to process new novel stimuli at their own comfort level.

- Model Calm Confidence: Demonstrating calm behavior helps communicate safety to your dog. (Sprout took the hint that if Mom isn't worried, she doesn't need to be either!).

- Respect Individual Paces: Booker was still undecided—and that’s completely okay! Building confidence is a journey, not a race.
