My patients are truly special to me. And being out in PA alone my clients and patients really are my family. This is my patient Sheldon (I call him Shellie).
Sheldon was diagnosed with renal dysplasia as a young puppy on a routine blood screen. His kidneys did not develop normally and do not function properly. We often will run lab testing as early disease prevention. It allows us to keep your pet more safe during anesthestic procedures and allows us to detect diseases that may affect their lives in the future. It helps us to decide which medications are safe for them and allows us to give them the happiest and longest life that we can.
Many people will say "Does my dog NEED that blood test? He/she's been healthy." Sheldon is a poster child for early disease detection. He never looked or acted sick until he recently became ill at the age of 4. Sheldon is lucky that he was blessed with the best mom ever that will do anything for him and loves him more than anything in the world. He's very easy to love though.
These pictures are from the time Sheldon came in dressed up for Halloween as an Ewok. I got the common page over the phone of "Dr. Phelps, your boyfriend is here to see you." I have a few...but they are all four legged and furry. He came running to see me because he was excited and threw himself down like he always did. I blew on his tummy as I always do and gave him lovin's and he gave me many many kisses in return. I'm so happy Shellie's mom had these to share with me. I can remember it like it was yesterday. I truly love this little dog and his in my prayers. Please keep him in yours
