Teddy the DLH was VERY ready for his summer makeover. ☀️✂️

This sweet boy came in for a lion cut to help remove excess coat, tackle matting, and make life a little more comfortable during the warmer months. And honestly? He looks very pleased with himself afterwards. 😂

A lion cut isn’t the right choice for every cat, but for some long-haired cats, especially those struggling with coat maintenance, it can be a huge relief.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that only “neglected” cats get matted. Thick coats, aging, arthritis, weight changes, stress, greasy coats, or simply being bad at self-maintenance can all contribute, even in very loved cats.

Teddy was an excellent boy for his spa day and left feeling much lighter, cleaner, and more comfortable. 💛

Hairy season is upon us! Lots of kitties shed up a storm this time of year. Sometimes a good bath, blow dry and deshed will be all that’s needed to remove excess hair. But sometimes kitties get into coat trouble and a Lion Cut is needed instead. Lastly, a Teddy Bear haircut is a great low maintenance option for LH cats that don’t have any knots or tangles.

Meet Oscar 💛

Oscar is a very sweet, patient cream Persian who came in with significant matting throughout his coat. While we always assess whether matting can be safely worked through, in his case the most humane and comfortable option was a lion cut.

For cats with dense, high-maintenance coats like Persians, matting can develop quickly—even with well-meaning care at home. Once the coat becomes tightly matted, brushing is no longer safe or comfortable for the cat.

Oscar handled his groom beautifully and now gets to go home feeling much lighter, cleaner, and more comfortable.

This is a great example of why routine grooming and coat maintenance are so important for long-haired breeds.
