Recently we've helped a number of owners who couldn't get into their normal hospitals. We had this heartcrusher of an appointment which is an all too familiar tale...
💔Sought out free kittens
💔No vet care
💔Mama probably didn't get vet care so now the doctor is worried about the babies' immunity
💔It was not known how expensive "free kittens" are for JUST the minimal recommended baby medical care
💔They are sick and there is limited funds, not even enough for basic testing.
After a long discussion of the cost of medical care, how this is likely not a one fix visit, how these cats when grown making dander and shedding might make the client's medical condition way worse leading to giving them away (again).... the ins and outs of what taking care of them actually entailed was deeply discussed.
It wasn't easy. It wasn't quick. It wasn't a superficial conversation.
This conversation will shape what happens to these innocent lives, forever.
SO many stories like this, end sadly:
Euthanized at the ER in future out of financial desperation because of an unplanned sickness, when they don't have a regular vet.
Being told "no room at the inn" repeatedly by full animal control facities and private rescues.
Being let outside in false hopes a cat will "know what to do" which often leads to suffering, mistreatment and often, a cruel and sad premature death.
Being given to the next person who thinks cats don't need regular care, perpetuating the cycle.
Well, our doctor was asked if she could help to find them good homes. Yes, they were surrendered. The client made a selfless decision.
Yes, we began medical care already because time is against the little one for best prognosis. Yes, pain relief meds and immune enhancers were started. Start praying and sending good healing vibes because these types of kitten eye injuries have a terrible habit, with poor immunity, to get baaaaddd (they can lose their eye). They arrived with fleas and ear mites so their poor little bodies are already dealing with lots, let's hope the orange one can fight this condition too. 🤞🏼🤞🏼
