A lot has changed around here and I just wanted to show my face for a second.

Different locations. Different programs. Different seasons. A whole lot of lessons learned the hard way.

But one thing hasn’t changed: I still fu***ng love training dogs.

Actually, I think I love it more now.

Because these days, CK9 is smaller, more personal, and sooo much more intentional.

I don’t want to train every dog. I mean I’ll do it, Because Im passionate about helping people, but my favorite type of dog are the really messed up ones.
The ones that have no desire for food or toys. The ones with a “rap” sheet- and the owners who aren’t willing to give up.

I want the complicated dogs.
The misunderstood ones.
I want The owners who genuinely want to learn and put in the work right beside me.
I want the cases that make me think.
And the training that changes more than just obedience.

CK9 has evolved a lot over the years.

So have I.

And I think we’re both better for it. 🖤🐾

My goal is for you to stop needing me. 👏🐕

Seriously.

A good dog trainer shouldn’t make you feel like you can’t succeed without them. My job is to give YOU the skills, timing, confidence, and understanding to handle your dog when I’m not standing next to you.

Because I’m not going to be there when your dog loses their mind at the UPS guy. 😂
I’m not coming on every walk.
I’m not hiding in the bushes at the park.
And unfortunately, I cannot move into your spare bedroom.

The goal is for you to become your dog’s trainer.

I want you to understand why we’re doing something, recognize what your dog is communicating, know when to step in, know when to back off, and have the confidence to problem-solve when real life happens.

Do I LOVE when past clients come back for advanced training, group classes, pack walks, or just because they want to keep learning? Absolutely. 🖤

But needing me forever?

That was never the goal.

Success is when you look at a situation you once would’ve called me about and think:

“I know exactly what to do.” 💪🐾

That’s the trainer I’m trying to build — you.

Two male-dominated fields. Zero interest in shrinking myself to fit either one.

Policing taught me how to hold my ground and show up as me to everything I do.
Dog training taught me how to trust my instincts.
Both taught me that being a woman in the room isn’t something I need to overcome — it’s part of what I bring to the table.

I’ve worked the streets. Held the leash. Worked dogs. Handled pressure. Taken the hits. Learned from people better than me. And kept showing up.

I don’t need to be “one of the guys” to earn respect.

I can be feminine AND tough.
Compassionate AND firm.
Wear blush AND put on a bite suit.
Love dogs AND work the hard ones.
Be soft when it serves me and strong when it’s required.

There’s room for women here.

Not because someone made room for us.

Because we earned it. 🖤🐾

Work? Dogs.
Free time? Dogs.
Weekend plans? Bring Dogs.
Trying to have a normal conversation? Somehow… dogs.

Turns out I have a very specific set of skills.

4 things I’m REALLY good at as a dog trainer:

1️⃣ Perfectly timed markers
Timing matters. A marker half a second too late can reward an entirely different behavior. I’m basically out here playing competitive-level “YES!” 😂

2️⃣ Luring
Want that dog’s body right there? Say less. Food placement, hand position, movement and timing can teach a dog more than wrestling them into position ever will.

3️⃣ Training humans
Plot twist: this is actually most of my job. 😏
The dog usually catches on pretty quickly. Then I have to teach the human when to reward, when to stop talking, how to hold the leash, and why saying “sit…sit…SIT…SITTTT” is not a training plan.

4️⃣ Building confidence
Probably my favorite one. 🖤
Watching a worried, reactive, shut-down or insecure dog start making better choices because they finally feel capable? THAT is the good stuff.

Good dog training isn’t just teaching commands.

It’s communication, timing, mechanics, confidence — and getting the human on the other end of the leash to understand all of it.

The dogs are usually the easy part. 😉🐾

Most dogs need:

* movement
* sniffing
* problem solving
* play
* structure
* rest

Good outlets:

* long line hikes
* fetch with rules
* scent games
* structured tug
* decompression walks

I think this was our 5th or 6th- 10 minute session with a focus on sit/down/stand combo. It’s amazing how fast she has nailed this. I’m adding more distance, switching up to voice only, or hand only every now and again. She’s earned a highlight reel for sure!
