635 days is a long time to wonder why no one has chosen you.

For 635 days, Pepper has watched other cats come and go while she stays behind. Her foster home has been her safe space, but her foster will not be available forever. Time is running out.

The truth is, Pepper isn't the cat who will leap into your lap the moment you meet her. She's the cat who needs a quiet home, a little patience, and someone willing to love her exactly as she is. In her foster home, she's blossomed - greeting her foster dad at the door, playing with her favorite toys, and settling into a life she finally understands - and we're sure she can do the same in your home too.

We're searching for a very special person because Pepper is at an important turning point in her journey. We need her next home to be her forever home.

A Case of the Walter Wiggles!
Most days, Walter is a distinguished gentleman who prefers to take life at his own pace. But every now and then, this toothless old man lets his guard down and shows off the joyful, goofy pup hiding underneath. ❤️

Just look at those smiles and happy wiggles! At 8 years old, Walter still has plenty of pep in his step, plenty of love to give, and a whole lot of personality. All he's missing is a soft bed, some soft food, and a patient person to call his own.

We think Walter is absolutely worth the wait. 💓🐾

HIKIN’ BUDDIES TOMORROW, JUNE 17th!

Wednesday, June 17th at 9:30am, join us for Hikin’ Buddies—our summer enrichment hiking program where community members can take one of our adoptable dogs out for a hike at Adam’s Gulch!

Why we love it:
🐶 Gives shelter dogs a break from the kennel
🌲 Provides exercise, enrichment, and fresh air
❤️ Helps us learn more about each dog in real-world settings
📸 Gives our pups extra exposure to potential adopters

Whether you’re looking for a hiking buddy for the morning or hoping to meet your future best friend, we’d love to see you there.
Please note: Hike-able dogs go out on a first-come, first-serve basis. You must be 18+ years to hike alone with a shelter dog.

Thank you to the ASPCA and the Heart of the Valley for a wonderful opportunity to work with them all again at the April Specialist Retreat!

At the end of April, the Learning Lab hosted another Specialist Retreat, welcoming team members from Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter (Belgrade, Montana) and Mountain Humane (Hailey, Idaho) at Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter. We were inspired to support one another, exchange resources, and collaborate to identify projects to strengthen our behavioral healthcare programming.
