Today we did a huge Vet Clinic. Started for me at 6 AM and didn’t finish until 6 PM. We are shipping 21 cats and everybody needed check ups, blood testing, last-minute vaccines (state of Colorado requires vaccinations immediately before travel), rabies vaccinations, health certificates, etc.. in addition to the 21 cats we did another 4 as backups, putting us at 25.
Thank you to everybody who participated. A massive shout out to Amanda Funkhouser & Ute Finch with Kitty Maui who not only brought 6 ready to fly cats +4 backups,, but they were also first in & last out on this very long day- and also came all the way from Lahaina! These clinics require a tremendous amount of paperwork. We printed and filled out nearly 100 documents last night. While Dr. Hellsen (love her!!) and I put the cats through rigorous testing today, Amanda and Ute scanned and uploaded every completed document for the airlines & the rescue group that is putting them up for adoption.
As always, much gratitude to Shelley Dunbar who developed the Denver Cat Company relationship - we sure love them as well! And to all of the different fosters who prepared the kitties to travel, thank you! (it never seems to properly tag u!) brought 4 kitties + drinks and food for everybody. Cherie Crettol has 6 cats flying! Tom & Bobbie Parr brought 2 absolutely gorgeous and very mellow calicos. And Susan Homer-Kissel & Susan Chai also brought 2 well adjusted gorgeous cats. Oh and Shelley‘s husband Andrew brought one fab Kitty as well. I think that’s everybody. I’m sorry if I’m missing anybody!
Did you know? We fly with our cats. We no longer fly them in cargo as the prices hiked to over $530 a carrier. The price is about 40% if we are with them and it’s safer for them as well. This Friday I’ll be up at 3 AM packing kitties for a 5 AM airport arrival. I’m excited to go to Denver with 21 cats! Bonus, I get to see my 92 year-old hospice mom in Santa Barbara on the way home. 🙂
It is not easy to get appointments. And it’s not easy to find homes. Nothing about rescue is easy. But people are still getting it done! Kitty Charm Farm is proud to work with individuals, fosters, and nonprofits who bust their b***y every day while remaining positive and helpful. Many of them don’t say a word about what they do, but they sure do a lot. As an example – Amanda Funkhouser is using her personal miles to fly me & all 21 cats! Talk about a team player. Many people and kitties are benefiting from her generosity.
It’s not easy, but we get it done together.
Stay on the sunny side, lots of good stuff happening over here!
