I would love to thank all my friends who came to my retirement party! All the hugs and kind words are really appreciated...I will miss seeing you and your "babies" at the clinic, but hope to be able to see you in the community! I loved my experiences as a Veterinary Technician ( could not afford vet school in my 20's) and as a Veterinarian starting 32 years ago. Living in the UP has been a wonderful life and all the people I have had in that life are fabulous!! I will certainly miss my friends that worked with me through the years at the clinic. In 32 years, we have had many wonderful people in the family....some who have gone on to becoming Technicians and Veterinarians. The current crew have been especially supportive as things were changing...Thank you Dani, Jill, Jen, Jenna, Allissa, Mallory and Eva (our NMU pre vet student)
Dr Jen and Dr Leah have been a true blessing in the last part of my journey.
Thank you to the veterinary clinics that have worked with us over the years! I hope to be able to keep in touch with you all.
Thank you Dr Joanna for moving to the U.P. and taking over with the care. You are amazing and will be really appreciated by everyone!

We share the sad news that after 22 years of antics, Trek is at rest. Losing him has been hard, but we know he shared a lot of love and mayhem in his 9 lives.
The Clinic will be a little quiet without him in the days ahead, but we know he has a lot of stories that will live on.

Trek would have been 23 this fall so we surround ourselves with the comfort that he loved many clients, played with a lot of puppies, ate WAY too much food for one cat, and kept us on our toes.

We have a lot of changes ahead and we appreciate the love and support from our friends!

The next chapter...

It is no surprise that my retirement is upon us, but the best way forward is to announce that I will transfer ownership of Gwinn-Sawyer Veterinary Clinic to Dr. Joanna Spencer. I have been looking for an individual that will take on the compassionate care we have provided over the last 29 years. I believe I have found that with Dr. Joanna and look forward to the new life she will bring to the Clinic

I appreciated my time with our community. The long hours, late night calls, high stress surgeries, disease management, and tearful goodbyes have been outweighed by the friendships I have made, the successful treatments, happy moments, and knowing that I have done my best for you. With extra hours in the day or the energy I had in my 20s, I could have done more, but I rest assured that we have created a great clinic atmosphere for employees, patients, and clients to learn and receive care.

As of May 29th, 2026 I will conclude my time as a veterinarian. It has been on the horizon for many years and suddenly it is time. I will enjoy a few extra hours of sleep, get through my reading list, and start my creative projects once again. I will be in the community and happy to see all the smiling faces that I have seen over the years, but will no longer be practicing veterinary medicine. I know that Dr. Joanna and the amazing staff will take care of our patients.

There will be lots of questions in the days ahead, but know that I leave you in the hands of a talented and compassionate team that will continue with the kindness and efficiency that you have grown to depend on. This summer will be a time of transition, but I believe it will be a benefit to our community. The name of the Clinic may change, but the staff who has known you and your pets will be ready for the next chapter.

Thank you for the time and friendship you shared with me. I have a heart full of memories that I will cherish.

The surprise is that we are STILL fighting to get to the Clinic!

The Road Crews have been steadily clearing out Marquette County, but Avenue A is not a priority. We have been told that we'll have a clear path tomorrow. We are also ready to get all our appointments rescheduled.

Well.
We headed to the Clinic twice today and our half of Avenue A has not been cleared yet. Our plow company is having trouble getting to the lot to plow. Lots of roads to be cleared and the hearty county plows are doing their best, but at this point we are going to remain closed for Wednesday.

We will need to get TO the Clinic and then shovel our little arms off so that you can get inside. We'll let you know the moment we get back on schedule.

In the meantime, continue to stay safe!

CLOSED TUESDAY!
The drifts are drifting, the snow is blowing, and the storm is still raging.

We moved Monday appointments to Tuesday (and later), but this storm is making travel dangerous and many of your hearty GSVC team are fighting drifts.
If you had an appointment Tuesday, it is cancelled and we will address your rescheduling when we get back to the clinic.

CLOSED MONDAY.
The plows went by the Clinic four times so we know they are working hard, but this snow is gonna keep coming.

Monday's appointments have been cancelled, rescheduled, or waiting for a call back when the snow settles.

Trek says everyone should curl up on the couch for extra snuggles or catch up on your latest Forsyth Township Public Library book finds!
