Histoplasmosis is a fungus found in bird droppings. If breathed in, it can cause respiratory symptoms, fever, fatigue, and muscle aches. See your doctor if you’re exhibiting these symptoms. Avoid exposure by wearing a N95 type mask while cleaning the chicken bedding. Wetting down the bedding prior to removal can cut down on the dust as well. Be sure to wash your hands and face after handling the chickens.
