Every morning starts with good intentions a list of errands, chores, and responsibilities waiting to be checked off. But for many dog owners, those plans can quickly take a back seat when a furry companion asks for attention with a single look. One moment you’re focused on getting things done, and the next you’re sitting on the floor having an imaginary conversation with your dog, completely forgetting what was so important a few minutes earlier.

The funny thing is, those unexpected pauses often become the most meaningful moments of the day. Dogs have a way of turning ordinary afternoons into memories filled with laughter, comfort, and connection. They listen without judgment, make us slow down, and remind us to appreciate the present. In a world that constantly pushes us to stay busy, spending a few extra minutes with a loyal companion can sometimes be the most productive thing we do.

Sakari
Feline Distraction Specialist | Dana's Canine Connection
Meet Sakari, our most senior and least manageable team member. For 10 years she has reported to work entirely on her own terms, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
Sakari's role is deceptively simple: be a cat. In a dog training environment, that turns out to be invaluable. While dogs are learning focus, impulse control, and how to ignore distractions, Sakari is the distraction — strolling past at inconvenient moments, holding eye contact just long enough to be a problem, and sitting exactly where she isn't supposed to.
She has never once obeyed a command. This is a feature, not a bug.
When she's not on the clock, you'll find her supervising sunsets from the driveway with the unbothered energy of someone who has already seen everything and remains unimpressed.
Specialty: Real-world distraction training
Experience: 10 years
Commands obeyed: 0
Attitude: Immaculate

This shepherd came to me for puppy training in 2023. When I saw the family was affected by the wildfires that swept through Guthrie in March 2025, I asked how I could help them with their dog.
It seemed the biggest thing I could do to ease their burden was to provide boarding for the dog while they found a new place to live, as temporary housing with a large, hyper dog was proving to be a challenge.
Thankfully, the family is all back together now in a new rental home.

Just want to remind people that sometimes a news event from months ago is still affecting families' daily lives.

☠️Having Lake fun be aware of Blue-Green Algae☠️
"Death follows minutes to hours after exposure to a small amount of this toxin." As the weather gets hotter, ponds can start to have "algae blooms." The water itself can look like pea soup, or like green paint is spread on the surface of the water. Some of these blooms are cyanobacteria, which can produce potent toxins. Many dogs are exposed when they wade in the water and either drink the water directly, or lick it off themselves when they come out. There is no antidote; treatment is supportive and many dogs don't survive. If your dog gets into a pond like this, bathe him immediately. If he has any symptoms, bring him right in to a veterinarian. See comments for more information about signs and treatment. (Many ponds that look like this are not dangerous, but it is not possible to tell which ones are toxic and which ones aren't except by having the water tested; therefore, it is safest to keep your pets out.)
