Some people talk to animals. Not many listen though. That’s the problem. (A.A. Milne)

Thank you for another fun and challenging week. Summer is on its way. Fleas and allergies abound. Watch out for overheating. Not all dogs get along. Lots of new kittens being born.

As we head into the Memorial Day weekend, remember:
1) Don't get too hot (we can overheat at 80 degrees if the humidity is high enough)
2) Eat the right stuff (fatty foods cause pancreatitis, fish hooks don't pass easily, watch out for cooked bones and chicken bones, they splinter.)
3) Play nice (we've treated too many dog fights already this week)
4) Stay out of the road (it's not a fair fight when a dog or cat meets a moving vehicle)
5) Have fun (we wish you all a safe and memorable weekend)

This is what the radiographs (x-rays) of a cat who almost passed a fishing hook would look like. Key word is almost. This fellow was presented with about 6 inches of fishing line hanging out of his re**um. The owners attempted to pull the line but were unsuccessful in removing it. This fellow required surgery to initially remove the barb, which had penetrated the bowel, and prevent any more damage to the colon before eventually opening the colon to finish removing the foreign body. The patient recovered completely. This serves as a reminder to keep fishing equipment out of the reach of pets.
