It is with a shattered heart that I am writing this. Wednesday we had our sweet boy Diesel euthanized. He was at home, in my arms, being held close. Diesel had suspected cushion disease. Its a horrible illness. He lost muscle mass in his right rear leg, he was struggling to get up and he slept almost around the clock. We also think he had a touch of dementia as he would stare into space at times. So, instead of letting him suffer as the disease progressed, we made the decision to do what was best for Diesel. We don't believe in letting an animal suffer for our own selfishness.
Diesel was a happy go lucky type of dog. He insisted we were his family 9 years ago and he was right. He won Tucker over and they became friends.
I have put his crate away as it was a reminder of what was and what should still be, and to be honest, my heart could not take it.
His cremation arrangements have been made and the process should be completed by end of next week. I am still searching for the perfect urn for him as his ashes will be coming home. He gave us 9 years of love & loyalty and we are blessed that Diesel chose us 9 years ago.
Rest in peace Diesel, we love you and we will see you on the other side. The rest of the crew is mourning as well, but seems Hannah & Bella more. Fly high my boy.

Remi had his wellness check up yesterday. He is UTD, healthy, and will be going for his neutering surgery on April 10th. (Remi is still looking for his forever home).
On April 23rd, Nikki will be going to the vet to be spayed.
Bella will be getting spayed shortly after Nikki.

UPDATE on Diesel: Diesel has cushion disease.(vet suspects, and our vet has over 40 years experience) He has lost muscle mass in his right hind leg, and his leg will shake. He has difficulty getting up on furniture by himself and pants even when its not hot, drinks alot of water, has the pot belly appearance, all signs of cushions. We are continuing to monitor him and if at any time his quality of life or he starts to suffer, we will make the decision to let him go, but for now, he is not at that point yet.

Horse's updates:
All horses are doing great. Bonnie just came off of bute for limping. For some reason she started limping after having her feet trim and usually its Clyde that limps. Both were on bute for the soreness but, Bonnie needed bute longer. They are all shedding like crazy and the mares have started their first heat cycle of the year.
As the temperatures start to warm up, we are keeping our eyes on them and are prepared for colic. We have pain meds on hand just in case, and on very hot days they will be stalled with fans going, automatic waterers on, hay in stalls, and after dinner, they will get turned out for the night. All horses are on 707 feed through fly control, salt, and get sprayed with skin so soft.

Donkey update: All Donkey's are doing good. Lucy is starting to want to be loved on so of course she gets loved on. She is also starting to follow me around the field. Donkey's are also on 707 feed through fly control, and about 7p.m. every night, they gather up at the barn for their private donkey meeting.

Field maintenance: Now is the time of year when the night mare of pokeweed starts. I have purchased 24D and will spray field when the weather and temperatures are right. 24D will also kill the caucus that seems to be growing along the edge of the field and this will be done at least twice a year.

Our goals:
To extend sick bay paddock to end of barn.
Block access to pond (it will not hold water and can become a hazard).
Combine sick bay stall with stall next to it to give Donkey's more room.
Possibly make last stall a wash stall
Hot water heater(purchase & install)

So, it appears we have an uneducated pos who commented on my page. Yes i deleted it, but, to say I am not a 501c3, not registered with the IRS, is a lie. I file taxes with the IRS every year to keep my 501c3 status. I have a 501c3 ID number, so im going to put this out there, If this person continues, I will sue him for damages.
Four Paws Rescue has saved a lot of lives since 2013 in Ct. We had a great team of volunteers who I am grateful for. We worked our asses off to save lives, raise money and endured a lot of heart break, so, for ANYONE, to say, DO NOT SEND DONATIONS, they are not a 501c3, they are not registered with the IRS, and to say they hate businesses that lie, is very sad. Since moving to SC, my husband and I have rescued 5 horses, 7 donkey's and 5 dogs. No we do not have fosters, no we do not have volunteers, its me and my husband. We do not get a large amount of donations, maybe, and its a big maybe, 125.00 year. And yes, it is reported to the IRS. That 125, covers 1 month of hay. It doesn't cover grain, farrier, vetting so who pays for that? We do. On top of all that, I rehab the animals that need it, we do not have volunteers to help with the daily barn chores or feeding, or field maintenance. So, whoever this BEN is, he needs to do some research before he accuses anyone of anything.
And an adoption fee is NOT a donation, it is to recover expenses that was put into the animal so we can continue to save lives.

Mr. Remi is still looking for his forever home. We believe he is a JR mix. He is energetic, learned to sit, down, and back to a sit on both verbal & hand commands. He is crate trained and will go out to go potty but will have accidents every now n then. He is a puppy so he has all the puppy@ behaviors. He has lost 1 puppy tooth already. He knows the words, NO, enough, and is learning stay. Remi lives with 6 other dogs of different breeds and sizes so he is use to other dogs. Remi was found under a diesel truck, wet, dirty and screaming. He was rushed to vet and was dewormed and was in good health. Remi is approximately 4 to 5 months old now, at time of rescue he was approximately 6 to 8 weeks old.
Remi has sooo much love to give & is a happy go lucky type of dog. Remi is located in Gresham SC. To adopt Remi there is a process and an adoption fee. If interested please contact me on fb.

Ok folks, the hard reality is, WE CAN NOT SAVE ANYMORE animals. We have 4 rescue horses, 6 rescue donkey's and now 7 dogs, and no donations, no adopter for Remi, our hands are now tied. Its unfortunate due to the fact there are so many dogs in need of help that we would love to help but can't.
Remi is looking for his forever home. A home that will love him like family. He would do great with someone who walks trails or even a walk around the neighborhood. With six other dogs, he is getting socialized and gets put in his place when needed. Nikki(another dumped dog) has taken him under her paw and has acted like a mother dog. Remi sleeps through the night and is getting use to a schedule for bed and wake up time. He also learned that his crate is not a bad thing, infact, if he goes in his crate for bed, he gets a treat, if I am leaving the house, he gets a treat for being in his crate. Remi has great potential due to the fact he is SMART and energetic. We believe he is a Jack Russell. If interested in adopting Remi, please contact me on fb or text me at 203.687.1601.

Two local animal shelters are looking for information on dogs found in the rain during the nor'easter that battered the state with wind and rain Sunday into Monday.

The Robin I. Kroogman New Haven Animal Shelter said in a Facebook post that a dog was found tied up and abandoned sometime Monday.

The Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter in Branford said a young puppy was found sometime Sunday night near Walmart.

"We are hoping that this puppy wasn’t dumped and he is just missing from his loving family," the shelter said.
