As veterinary professionals, we wouldn't be doing our jobs if we avoided these conversations simply because they're uncomfortable.
Today is National Pet Obesity Awareness Day, and we're talking about a subject that can be sensitive for pet parents: their pet's weight.
We get it. You love your pet, you want them to be happy, and hearing that they may be carrying extra weight isn't always easy.
But here's what we want you to know: When your veterinarian brings up your pet's weight, it's never coming from a place of judgment. It's coming from a place of advocacy. 💙
Excess weight can affect far more than appearance. It can contribute to joint discomfort, reduced mobility, diabetes, and other health concerns that impact your pet's quality of life.
And while these conversations aren't always comfortable, avoiding them wouldn't be fair to the animals who depend on us to speak up for their health.
At FurWell, our job isn't just to treat illness. It's to help prevent it, too.
That means taking the time to evaluate your pet's body condition, discuss nutrition, and work with you to develop realistic, individualized plans for a healthier future.
💙 Because this isn't about blame. It's about giving your pet the best chance at a longer, healthier, happier life.
Curious about your pet's body condition? Ask us at your next visit. We're always happy to have that conversation.
