Thank you to our hardy volunteers who endured the sun and managed to stay hydrated, and to our generous donors who rolled down their vehicle windows, letting out the A/C long enough to drop change and dollars in our buckets!! Our roadblock collection this morning raised $2k, despite the sweltering heat and the shortened schedule. We are so happy for this support in our small community!!

Tomorrow morning make sure to drive by for the ROAD TOLL🐶😽🚗 🗓 Saturday, September 5th from 9 AM - 11 AM.

Our volunteers will be at intersections around Greenville, braving the hot sun🌞😓, collecting money for the animals in Bond County Humane Society shelter & foster care!

We hope to see you drop a few dollars (or your car's entire change drawer) in our buckets! We'll have doggie biscuits for your pooch, too! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Our condolences to the family and friends of Barbara Jones for their loss and our gratitude for designating Bond County Humane Society as a recipient of memorial donations. 😿

Barbara Ann Jones, of Taylor Springs, Illinois, passed away surrounded by her loving family. In accordance with her wishes, the family has chosen cremation. Myth: I have a 9-5 job and just don’t have time to foster.

Fact: Fostering kittens who eat well on their own (usually around 4-5 weeks of age) requires surprisingly little time out of your busy schedule.

Myth: I can’t take on the financial responsibility. I just don’t have the money to care for foster kittens.

Fact: Foster programs cover the cost of the kittens’ medical care, food, litter, and other supplies and toys.

Myth: I have children, so I can’t foster.

Fact: You can certainly foster kittens if you have children. With supervision, children have the opportunity to learn how to care for kittens, play with them, and socialize them. Just be sure that your children wash their hands before and after handling the kittens. Also, keep in mind that if your child has a weakened immune system or is easily susceptible to communicable diseases, you may want to take extra precautions when they are interacting with your foster kittens.

Myth: Fostering a dog costs a lot of money out of pocket.

Fact: Shelters like BCHS provide free food, supplies, toys, and veterinary care, as well as LOTS of advice and training support.

Myth: You need a big house and a yard.

Fact: Dogs of all sizes do great in apartments and small homes as long as they get regular walks and optional outings to a dog park. Of course, some dogs may be more appropriate for homes that do have a secure fenced yard.

Myth: Fostering is a long-term, endless commitment.

Fact: Many foster stays last only a few weeks, and short-term or weekend respite care is often available.

Myth: Foster dogs are sick or aggressive.

Fact: Most dogs need foster homes simply because shelters are crowded and stressful, not because they have severe behavioral or medical problems.

Myth: You cannot work a regular job and foster.

Fact: A quiet home alone for part of the day is much less stressful for a dog than a loud shelter kennel. We can suggest some dog-friendly TV and radio channels, too, to keep your foster pooch company!

Ellie, the 2 month old gray tabby shorthair kitten, found her forever home on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Bond County Humane Society’s shelter in Greenville, Illinois. Ellie and her siblings had been born at a lady’s house, but she had too many cats and surrendered them to BCHS, along with the kittens’ mother, when they were just 2 weeks old. She loves to pounce, kick, or bite any toy you toss her. And she has heterochromia – one blue eye and one greenish yellow eye! Let us know how it’s going and how her eyes have matured along with the rest of her! And thank you for giving our kitty a new home! BCHS holds regular pet adoption events at the Fairview Heights Petco on Saturdays AND at our Greenville Shelter Office during public hours.
