🐶💜 Responsible Dog Ownership Day 💜🐶
Being a dog parent is about so much more than belly rubs, treats, and having someone follow you to the bathroom. 😂🐾 Responsible dog ownership means making a commitment to care for them through every stage of their life.
In honor of Responsible Dog Ownership Day, here are a few ways we can all be the kind of humans our dogs deserve:
🩺 Stay on top of their healthcare. Keep up with yearly wellness exams, recommended vaccinations and routine bloodwork, and don’t forget year-round heartworm, flea, and tick prevention!
🦷 Don’t forget those teeth! Regular dental care at home and professional cleanings when recommended can make a big difference in your dog’s overall health and comfort.
🏷️ Make sure they can find their way home. Keep ID tags and microchip information current — especially after moving or changing phone numbers.
🐕 Give them appropriate exercise & enrichment. Walks, playtime, sniffing, training, puzzles, and new experiences are important for both their physical and mental health.
🦮 Practice good manners. Training, proper socialization, leash safety, picking up after your pup, and respecting other dogs' and people's space are all part of being a responsible pet parent.
🏡 Provide a safe environment. Fresh water, appropriate nutrition, shelter from extreme temperatures, secure fencing or leashes, and a comfortable place to rest are everyday necessities.
❤️ And most importantly — make the commitment. Dogs depend on us for their health, safety, comfort, and happiness. They may only be part of our lives for a chapter, but we are their whole world.
So today, give your pup an extra scratch behind the ears and celebrate yourself, too, for doing your best to give them the happy, healthy life they deserve. 🥰🐾
