Sometimes the best part of being a horse is when your owner gets those tough spots to reach! 😍 Whether it’s a favorite spot on the withers, a good neck rub, or that magical spot that makes their lip go up… our horses definitely know how to enjoy the little things!

✨ Fun fact: Mutual grooming and scratching are natural behaviors for horses and can be a great way to strengthen the bond between you and your horse!

So today, take a few extra minutes to give your four-legged friend some well-deserved scratches. 🥰

☀️🐴 HOT & HUMID WEATHER: KEEP YOUR HORSE COOL! 🐴☀️
Summer heat and humidity can be tough on our horses! When temperatures rise, horses can have a harder time cooling themselves through sweating, so it’s important to help them stay comfortable and hydrated.

Here are a few simple tips to help your horse beat the heat:

💧 Keep fresh, clean water available at all times!
🚿 Offer cool water or hose your horse down when needed, especially after exercise
🌳 Provide plenty of shade and consider bringing horses into a well-ventilated barn during the hottest part of the day
🌀 Use fans to improve airflow
🏇 Avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest parts of the day — early morning or evening is often better!
🧂 Provide access to salt to help replace electrolytes lost through sweating
👀 Watch for signs of heat stress, including excessive sweating or lack of sweating, rapid breathing, weakness, lethargy, or an elevated temperature

⚠️ Remember: Humidity matters too! When the air is already saturated with moisture, your horse's sweat doesn't evaporate as efficiently, making it harder for them to cool themselves.

That being said we ask that your horse be haltered and have basic ground manners. Biting, kicking, and striking are no go’s for us. We are always happy to do whatever we can to help our nervous, scared, or young equine friends have a positive experience with the vet, however we MUST be able to do that in a safe and productive way. 🐴 LET’S TALK DEWORMING! 🪱

🍂 Fall deworming is right around the corner! Before reaching for that dewormer, have you had your horse’s f***l egg count (FEC) checked?

If you haven’t already, we highly recommend completing a f***l before deworming. This helps us determine what parasites your horse may be carrying and, most importantly, helps us choose the right dewormer for YOUR horse. 💊🐎

Not every horse needs the same deworming program, and routine deworming without testing can contribute to parasite resistance.

🚘Swing by the clinic a drop off a f***l sample (Two f***l balls in a zip bag with your name and your horses name) and let’s make sure you’re treating smarter—not just more often!
