I got a touching email earlier this week, telling me that another of our "past puppies" had crossed the rainbow bridge. Waffles was born in 2014, and this email left me contemplating how much has changed in those years. My daughters were babies then. There have been hard times since then. I have been thankful beyond measure that these dogs have helped provide for our family so I can stay home and homeschool my children. But there have been other days when I wasn't sure it was worth it....raising dogs is HARD sometimes. Emails like this remind me that doing our best to raise happy, healthy companions isn't just about US. It's a win-win situation---my daughters have grown up learning responsibility, ethics, and compassion by interacting with our dogs, but we have also had the opportunity to bless others. This is a long, somewhat contemplative post, but here are just a few of the words from the email that were such an encouragement to me this week:
"I wanted to write to you because I think of the day often that I picked her up from your farm and your little girl said a sweet goodbye to "Pancake" and it's always meant so much to me that I got my first Corgi from such a loving and beautiful home. I always credit your daughter for Waffles' pure love for children. I am eternally grateful to you for choosing me to bring this little Corgi into my life. I will be forever grateful for the gift that was having Waffles as my companion and am heartbroken to have lost her. I am grateful for the 12 years I was honored to share with this little Corgi . Thank you a thousand times over. "
And thank YOU for making this possible by purchasing one of our fur-babies and giving them such a wonderful life....to the very end.
