We get LOTS of inquiries asking about pricing, so… here it is! 🤍
We’ve never really posted our pricing publicly because every pup is different, and our intake forms have always given a general idea of where services begin. But I know it’s helpful to have something easy to reference, so we’re finally sharing our Starting Service Investment Guide.
These are exactly that — starting service investments. Final pricing is still individualized based on your pup’s size, coat, condition, grooming needs, behavior and the time and resources their appointment requires.
And if you ever look at one of those numbers and wonder, “Why does that service cost that much?” — please feel free to ask! I’m always happy to to explain what goes into what we do!
And That’s actually a fair question. And because so much of what goes into mobile grooming happens behind the scenes, I thought I’d explain a little bit about what you’re really paying for when you book with K-9 By Design.
Take a small, heavily coated Pomeranian for example.
They may be small, but that does not mean they’re a small job.
Our bathing process is extensive. Every pup receives two thorough baths with premium Hydra products, followed by the appropriate conditioning treatment for their coat and skin. We don’t believe in a quick shampoo-and-rinse approach. A beautiful groom starts with an exceptionally clean, properly conditioned coat.
Now add a thick double coat.
That little Pom may require several times the water, drying time and coat preparation of another small dog.
And when you’re mobile, water is a very real part of the equation.
Our trailer carries a 100-gallon fresh-water tank, which is larger than many mobile setups. I intentionally wanted that capacity because I knew the level of bathing and coat care I wanted to provide would require it.
Even with 100 gallons, heavily coated dogs, doodles and other coat-intensive pups can use an enormous amount of our daily water supply. That means some days we can responsibly accommodate more pups, while other days only a few appointments may use nearly all of our available water, time and drying capacity.
That’s one of the biggest differences people don’t always see with mobile grooming.
There are also the operating costs behind the trailer itself — fuel for the truck, fuel for the generator, truck and trailer maintenance, water systems, pumps, dryers, hydraulic equipment, routine repairs, supplies, laundry, sanitation and everything required to keep a fully self-contained grooming salon safely operating on the road.
And when the last pup is finished, our workday still isn’t necessarily over.
We go home and refill the water tank, wash towels, clean and sanitize, restock, maintain equipment, answer messages, work on scheduling and prepare everything for the next day. There are plenty of nights when we aren’t truly finished until 9 or 10 PM.
Then there’s the part you don’t see on an invoice.
The continuing education. The certifications. More than two decades spent learning this profession. The hours spent studying coat care, handling, behavior, products and techniques because I never want to stop growing as a Canine Coat Designer and becoming better for every pup entrusted to me.
But the biggest difference is still the pup standing on my table.
Your dog is never part of an assembly line here.
They aren’t simply treated like family.
They ARE Family!
That’s why we adjust the groom for the senior who needs extra breaks.
Why we slow down for the nervous pup.
Why we celebrate birthdays and Gotcha Days.
Why there may be a little snack, a Bistro Sundae, a pup cup or a take-home bakery treat waiting for them.
Why I obsess over the tiny details most people will never even notice.
Every little thing is intentional.
Can you find a mobile grooming service that charges less? Absolutely. Just like any industry, there will always be different price points. But convenience alone isn’t what defines our service. The products we use, the time we allow, the bathing and coat preparation, the individualized handling, the education behind the groom and the attention given to every single pup are all part of that investment.
Quality is not created equal — and at K-9 By Design, we will never sacrifice quality for quantity.
So when you look at our price guide, know that you aren’t simply paying for a bath or haircut.
You’re paying for the time, resources, expertise, individualized attention and level of care that goes into giving your pup the very best experience we can provide.
We don’t just groom coats. We design them.
And one of these days I really do need to turn the camera on from the beginning of our day until the very end so you can see everything that goes into mobile grooming beyond the part you see on the grooming table. 😂
Because the grooming itself is only part of the job.
