Good morning! I want to take a moment to remind everyone of the purpose of our Pet Pit Stops. These boxes are intended to help individuals and families who may be a few days away from payday and have run out of pet food or essential supplies.

On Friday evening, I stocked one box with 8 bags of dog food, 8 leashes, and more than 20 cans of dog food. By Saturday morning, the box was completely empty. Additionally, the door was left wide open, and the plexiglass was loose. We have already had to make repairs to the box twice.

I sincerely hope that multiple families were able to benefit from this resource. However, these boxes are meant to help as many people as possible, not just one person. Please be considerate of others, take only what you need to get by, and make sure the boxes are properly closed and cared for after use.

We want these Pet Pit Stops to be a lasting resource for our community, and that takes everyone's cooperation. Thank you for helping us make sure these resources remain available for the people and pets who need them most!

A huge thank you to PAWS of Hancock County for their generous donation of 25 cases of dog food to support our Pet Pit Stops! Not only did they donate the food, but they also went the extra mile by delivering everything right here to Greensburg.

A special thank you to PAWS President Jason Taylor for helping make this donation possible. Your generosity and willingness to support our local animal welfare efforts mean so much.

Thank you, PAWS of Hancock County, for being a wonderful partner in helping pets in need!

This is Dijon, and he needs your help! 🐱🐾

Dijon arrived at the Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter as a stray in rough shape. Estimated at seven-years-old, Dijon appeared unkempt with excessive drooling. The team at the shelter noticed quickly that something was not right. Dijon was pawing at his mouth and meowing in distress every time he tried to eat. Inside, his mouth was swollen and painful.

After a quick exam at the vet, Dijon was diagnosed with suspected stomatitis, a painful, chronic inflammation of the mouth, gums, and throat. Despite all of this, Dijon is the sweetest and cuddliest cat; it’s like he knows the shelter staff is there to help him.

Dijon will need an extensive dental procedure to give him the best chance at a happy, healthy life before finding his forever home, but first he needs your help.

Will you be an animal hero today and make a life-saving gift towards his medical care? Every dollar donated goes right into a medical fund to not only help Dijon, but to help any animal in need that goes through the shelter’s doors.

Because of people like you, the shelter is able to give second chances to animals that need it most. We at the Friends of the Greensburg & Decatur County Animal Shelter, the shelter staff, and Dijon can’t thank you enough for your support!
