❤️ A Happy Ending for Ella ❤️

After 9 long days in the hospital fighting parvovirus, Ella finally did what we had all been waiting for—she ATE on her own, started playing, and got to GO HOME! 🎉🐾

Parvo is no joke. It is an incredibly contagious and potentially deadly virus, especially in young, unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated puppies. Ella required days of intensive supportive care, monitoring, medications, fluids, and a whole lot of love from our team.

Thankfully, this sweet girl fought hard and made it through. Unfortunately she was the only survivor out of her litter of 6.

Ella’s story is also an important reminder about puppy vaccinations.

🐶 Puppies should typically receive their first parvo-containing vaccine around 6–8 weeks of age, followed by boosters every 3–4 weeks until at least 16 weeks of age. In higher-risk situations, your veterinarian may recommend continuing the series until 18–20 weeks.

The reason for all those boosters? Antibodies puppies receive from their mothers can interfere with vaccines early in life. We can’t predict exactly when that maternal protection disappears, which is why completing the entire puppy vaccine series is so important.

Until your puppy is adequately vaccinated, be cautious about exposing them to places where unknown or unvaccinated dogs have been. Parvovirus is extremely hardy and can survive in the environment for a very long time.

After watching Ella fight for 9 days, we couldn’t be happier to see her heading home with her family. 🥹❤️
