When I hear:
"Train the dog in front of you."
These types of scenarios come to mind.
An 8 month old puppy that's been socialized since birth will have a LOT of different expectations versus a timid dog with an unknown background. It wouldn't be fair at all to lump these two dogs together and use the same style of training on them.
Apache (first in video) is my personal dog. We've spent a lot of time bringing him out and working to keep him friendly and social. I expect him to remain neutral and relaxed unless prompted otherwise. In the video, I had actually asked the employee to hype him up for the video. Being the d***y puppy he is, he said 'heck yeah!'.
Shadow is here with us for basic training and confidence building. She used to flinch if you raised your hand or grabbed something off of the counter. I am VERY impressed with her. Not only did we actually make it inside of the store (not on video, as my focus was on her), but she was the one that decided to move forward by hopping out of the car on her own!
I love watching dogs grow and learn, no matter what the situation is. ❤
