Here at Greenfield Animal Hospital, we love our domestic pets! But we also know how important local wildlife is! We have the privilege of seeing and treating an array of wild animals in support of North Country Wild Care.

Furry, feathery, and even slimy creatures have incredibly vital roles in our ecosystems! Even the smallest of wildlife, like insects, play big parts we couldn’t thrive without!

In honor of national wildlife day, let’s take it upon ourselves to learn how to be a wildlife warrior! You don’t need a degree, license, or certificate to give back, you just have to care! 🫶

With the North Country Wild Care organization, anyone can donate, sponsor, fundraise, or assist with the emergency hotline.

And if anything at all, keep their emergency hotline phone number handy: (518) 964-6740. Always consult a licensed wildlife rehabilitator first if you ever spot distressed wildlife!

Today is National Holistic Pet Day, and your neighborhood veterinarian is jumping on to dedicate today’s post to your pet’s comprehensive wellbeing. 🪷🐾

At Greenfield Animal Hospital, we believe in a blend of Western and Eastern Veterinary practices to promote your pet’s best self, which is why we offer an array of holistic and alternative treatments including: 🌱

Our qualified veterinarians who perform acupuncture are Dr. Akawi and Dr. Serfis, who

This month, we are bringing awareness to the #2 reason pets visit their local veterinarian: allergies!

Environmental allergies are extremely common in canines especially, so don’t fret if your furry friend starts to get a big itchy!

Itching is a common indicator that an animal is struggling with allergies, however, there are more symptoms that you can watch out for! These include licking (most commonly of the paws, but in some cases of the belly, groin, or privates), scooting of the hind end, and shaking of the head or ears.

These actions suggest your pet is attempting to get some relief. Environmental allergies can irritate their skin, ears, eyes, and even a**l glands! These issues may be worse during certain seasons or present themselves all-year long!

The Greenfield Animal Hospital has several options to provide them with relief! These vary from shampoos or mousses, injections, medications, or even diet change recommendations.

Did you know? Some dogs have difficulty expressing their a**l glands on their own & require assistance! You may see your dog have trouble pooping or start to scoot their butt on the ground if their a**l glands are full!

Greenfield Animal Hospital is excited to unveil our brand new parking lot!

Justin Lenihan and his crew at Lenihan Paving have been hard at work since Monday and we are absolutely thrilled with the result! Not only did they excavate and pave everything for us, but they also blocked off a pathway from the hospital’s temporary parking lot to our front door, so that everyone was able to get into our building safely!

We would like to thank everyone for their patience during this time, and can’t wait to have everything back to normal tomorrow.

We have officially entered the Dog Days of Summer, folks! ☀️ This over month-long span from July 3rd to August 11th covers the hottest days of the year 🌡️

This summer, we urge you to be proactive with your pets’ care due to the severe heat. Some days, it simply feels too hot for us to go outside, which means it’s certainly too hot for them!! 🐾

With temperatures over 75 degrees Fahrenheit, dogs can suffer from heat stroke if exerting themselves in the warm weather for too long. Keep walks short this summer and plan accordingly: if there’s a heat advisory with temperatures over 85 degrees, plan to walk your dog very early in the morning or opt for some fun indoor playtime!

Before a walk, check the pavement to feel how hot. Your pets’ paws can burn easily and cause serious damage.

On a walk, bring cool water to offer to your pet occasionally and stay in mostly shaded areas. When in doubt, a puzzle or lick mat as an indoor activity instead is always a fun time!

Signs of heat stroke include excessive painting and very bright pink gums, drooling, overall weakness or inability to move, vomiting, and collapse. If you’re at all worried about a dog’s health in the heat, you should find a shaded area, offer cool water to drink, and contact your veterinarian right away.

We wish all of our patients and clients a happy 4th of July this weekend, but don’t forget some important things to note as a pet parent this holiday….

We’ll be open normal hours this Saturday from 9am-5pm just incase your holiday needs to turn in to a vet visit…we are not an emergency hospital, but have the ability to see urgent cases based on scheduling and staffing. Always call ahead at (518) 893-6228

When in doubt, we can always refer you to a 24 hour emergency animal hospital. 🏥
