Sunrise Therapeutic Services - Sunrise Riders Equine assisted activities & Adaptive Horsemanship for children/adults in a safe & fun learning environment. PATH,Intl./CHA Certified Instructors.

Sunrise Therapeutic Services, more commonly known as Sunrise Riders is an Equine Assisted Activities center located in Greenbrier, Arkansas. Our center partners with specially trained horses, certified instructors and volunteers to provide safe opportunities for educational, sport, and recreational activities for those with physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and/or behavioral disorders. We al

so provide adaptive equipment to make riding more accessible. We also provide a limited number of traditional riding lessons for typical riders in Western and English riding styles. Individuals are able to benefit tremendously from horseback riding. Some benefits of horseback riding include:

The warmth of the horseโ€™s body helps to sooth spastic muscles. The movement of the horse is the closest simulation to the human walk. The horseโ€™s movement requires the rider to work on coordination, balance, and posture. Riding provides an individual with a sense of control because he/she is working with such a large animal
The horse provides the opportunity to see the world from a different and elevated perspective (maybe for the first time in a riderโ€™s life) and go places where they couldnโ€™t go before. Interacting with staff, volunteers, and other riders provides an opportunity for positive socialization. Riding involves concentration. The horse is a partner they can bond with and which offers motivation to expand their horizons. Taking care of a horse teaches responsibility and fosters a caring attitude. Working with horses helps to foster increased self-worth.

The Bill Picket Invitational Rodeo is coming to Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, TX June 20th! It would be awesome to raise the funds to take a field trip to see this with some of our Sunrise Therapeutic Services - Sunrise Riders participants! Featured in our recent Reel is an amazing young man Miyanda who has been a participant and a volunteer for a few years now. I know he and many other participants would love to attend!

Lovely morning at Sunrise Therapeutic Services - Sunrise Riders. 15 yr old Zoe, of Conway, took a lesson on Buster perfecting different ways to ride the trot, sitting, standing, posting and 2-point(half seat)position. She also practiced using her body, breath and energy to rate her horse's speed and to ride into the halt, while not relying only on her hands to just pull the horse into a halt. (In fact, Instructor, Carole Smith, always taught us that "pull" was a naughty four letter word!) Zoe then volunteered at the barn until noon helping with bathing(see video in comments) , mucking, sweeping, etc. 16 yr old Genavive came to the barn at 8AM as an experienced volunteer and made quick work of measuring the feed into morning breakfast buckets, organizing and cleaning the feed room, mucking and hosing down Prize(see posted video) . She was joined by Katherine of Little Rock. She is a young married mom who has also donated her horse Dudley to our program while her husband is in medical school. She brings baby Watson in a frontpack and helps with cleaning and filling water buckets, feeding, mucking and helping groom and keep Dudley's training up to date. See more pics in the comments.

Recently enjoyed a wonderful reunion visit from Tamara Long and daughter, Jennie Riggs, all the way from Nebraska! Jenny is now 38 but was about 4 yrs old when she was in our first group of special equestrians at our Sunny Gap Farm location, owned by Dr. Pat Bradley and Fred Hendricks. She followed us to our Conway location and then to Greenbrier and continued to ride with us into her 20s, until they moved out of state. Thanks for making us part of your road trip!!

Horses are sporting new Rugged Ride fly boots. Volunteer Tiffany McCants is leading 22 yr. old Dudley, high stepping it as he gets used to the boots. Fly boots help protect the legs from stress, bites, injury or hoof damage that can come from constant stomping due to fly irritation. We also hang fly bait stations far from the barn and sticky traps in the barn. Our stall fans also help for cooling and fly deterrent. We started 707 Multifly feed thru as well.
