We have an update on WIllow! 😍

Her owner has advised that "Willow is doing great. She is the sweetest girl. We are having fun playing ball and taking long walks. I'm still working on potty training, but she is getting there. I took her for a grooming, and they had to shave her because of the matting. 😬"

Greenbelt Animal Services would like to let everyone know that the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for today June 12th between 11am-8pm. Heat Index expected to be 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

Prince George's County Animal Code Sec. 3-180 Animal Cruelty and Neglect; Prohibited (a) All domestic animals except livestock are prohibited from being kept outdoors when the effective outdoor heat index is 90 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.

Please keep your pets cool and safe!

Placing a bowl of water outside for local community cats and wildlife would be helpful in keeping them safe and hydrated during these temperatures as well.

For additional information or to report a concern, contact Greenbelt Animal Services at 301-474-6124.

Sophie's stopping by to remind everyone she's still available for adoption! 👋

7-year-old Sophie is one of the gentlest and sweetest dogs we've ever met. After living with the same family for her whole life, she was surrendered to us when they could no longer care for her. This change has been really hard on Sophie, and adjusting to the shelter has been challenging. Sophie can be scared and unsure when meeting new people, but with just a little patience, love, and treats, she blossoms into the most affectionate and loyal girl who just wants a family of her own.

As you can see from the video, Sophie is quite the prodigy and knows her stuff -- like shake, sit, lie down, and roll over. She’s a dream on walks, loves playing fetch, and her former owner said she loves other dogs (and has lived with a cat!). Plus, she's house-trained, so what more could you want in a perfect dog?!

If you're interested in adopting soft-hearted Sophie, please email [email protected] or call 301-474-6124.

🐾 Meet Blu! 🐾

At just 10 months old, Blu is currently the longest-resident pup at the City of Greenbelt Animal Shelter, and it's hard to understand why.

I've recently partnered with the shelter to train dogs who are having a tough time finding their furever homes. This handsome brindle Pit Bull is smart, playful, eager to learn, and full of love. He has plenty of puppy energy for adventures and playtime but he's also a champion cuddler when it's time to relax.

Blu deserves a family that will give him the love, commitment, and structure he needs to thrive. Could that family be yours - or someone you know?

Greenbelt Animal Services received an update on Bird who was recently adopted from our shelter.

His new owner stated "Not sure if he was like this at the shelter but he has the largest play battery. I swear he is still a kitten! He especially loves the laser toy and assorted toys around the house. He wakes up early and is very vocal when he's not happy! I took him to my vet just to be sure his crying wasn't health related and she thought it was just adjusting to not having shelter mates. That's getting better but feel bad about not having company for him so we have been doing as much as possible together every day and he is such a lover when he's ready for nap time with his new dad, shelter mate, and full time play partner."

Ever seen a Flat-coated Retriever before? Well now you have -- meet adoptable Moose!

2-year-old Moose came to the shelter as a stray, so we can't be 100% sure of his pedigree, but we think this beautiful pup may be a Flat-coated Retriever, a breed of hunting dog from England. Moose sure fits the breed standard -- a lustrous black fur coat and a smart, energetic, and oh-so-friendly personality.

Moose loves going on walks, playing fetch (he is a retriever, of course!), and demanding butt scratches. Moose is non-reactive, though he does seem eager to meet other dogs on walks. At 56-pounds, Moose is a big boy and a puppy at heart and he's already mastered sit and house-training!

If you're interested in adopting majestic Moose, please email [email protected] or call 301-474-6124 for more information.
