Meet Ringo! 🐾 Last week, he came to us for a neuter. As a brachycephalic breed, Ringo has a higher anesthetic risk due to his flat face. Luckily, our team is very experienced in caring for pets with unique needs like Ringo’s. Limp or emergency? Here’s what to watch for. 🐾

A mild limp may improve with rest, but some signs mean your pet should be seen promptly:
• Refusing to put weight on the leg
• Crying, shaking, or signs of significant pain
• Swelling, bleeding, or an obvious injury
• Dragging a limb or sudden weakness
• Limping after trauma, a fall, or rough play

When in doubt, it’s always best to have your pet evaluated, especially since some injuries may be more serious than they appear.

Sometimes that cute snoring or snorting is not as innocent as it seems. Flat-faced breeds like Pugs, Frenchies and Bulldogs are adorable, but many quietly (or not so quietly) struggle daily just to get enough air. It is important that we help support all of our BOAS friends so they can live happy and healthy lives, despite their anatomy!

💜 What you can do:
• Maintain a healthy weight
• Avoid excess heat and humidity
• Minimize stress/excessive exercise
• Use a harness (rather than a neck collar)
• Meet with your vet to discuss if surgical intervention is appropriate

👉Severe cases require surgical correction and earlier intervention leads to better outcomes. Not all factors of brachycephalic syndrome can be "fixed" with surgery, but the intention is to improve airflow and subsequently, quality of life. At Packerland we can assess your pet and perform the necessary procedures that can lead to a happier and more comfortable life.

Say hello to Gosha! 🐾 This charming fellow recently came in for a neuter, and although those ears might appear a bit intimidating – he's a true sweetheart! ❤️ Scottish Folds, like Gosha, originate from a single Scottish barn cat named Susie, with a gene mutation that causes their unique folded ears. All kittens are actually born with straight ears and it isn't until around 4 weeks of age when you determine if they will be a Scottish Fold or a Scottish Straight. While they're known for their gentle nature, owners should be mindful of potential joint and ear health issues. Responsible breeding is paramount to minimize serious concerns and helps keep the breed healthy and happy. We loved meeting Gosha and wish him Happy Healing!🧡
