Here are some simple, practical tips pet owners can use to help keep their pets hydrated during National Pet Hydration Awareness Month:
๐ง Keep fresh, clean water available at all times and refill bowls throughout the day.
๐ฅฃ Place multiple water bowls around the house, especially in homes with multiple pets.
๐ง Add a few ice cubes to the water bowl (if your pet enjoys them).
๐ฐ Try a pet water fountainโmany cats and some dogs prefer running water.
๐ฅซ Feed canned or wet food, which contains much more moisture than dry kibble.
๐ Offer pet-safe water-rich treats, such as seedless watermelon, cucumber, or blueberries (in moderation). Avoid grapes, raisins, onions, and other toxic foods.
๐งด Add a splash of low-sodium, onion- and garlic-free broth to water to encourage drinking.
๐ฅค Bring water and a portable bowl on walks, hikes, or trips to the park.
๐ณ Keep pets cool by providing shade and limiting exercise during the hottest parts of the day.
๐พ Wash water bowls daily to keep them clean and appealing.
