Today we said goodbye to our beloved Steve. He has been in our care for 15 years. His story was a sad one, he and his mate Peggy came to me from a neglect situation. All of their tail and wing feathers were cut off and they were placed in a box on the front door of Petco one morning. I was asked to foster them until they were healed. It took months.... it was soooo sad to see, but the bond they had was amazing. Then one day there were eggs. I didn't remove them. They had been traumatized enough. They raised their family until they booted Jr out of their bond. He was placed in a loving family. A few years ago, Peggy lost her battle to a large cancerous tumor. Peggy and Steve mate for life, so he was very quiet for quite some time. The past couple years we would hear him coo to the other animals, and occasionally still hear his cackle. He left on his terms, lastnight he took a treat from me and seemed content. This morning he was peacefully in the corner of his home passed. Rest in peace sweet boy. Your story has educated many... enjoy your reunion with Peggy. Fly high.... 💔🕊
