Less than 3 weeks till season starts! As everyone finishes up your preparations, here's some points to consider:
.) Pre-season scouting. Find local trackers before season. Call them, text them, save their numbers in your phone. Figure out how they run their outfit and decide if thats the kind of person you trust.
.) YES we can track inside your CWD zone. - - NO we don't care if you shot it over feed. That's not our business. Don't let that be a reason to not call for help. There's a wounded deer that needs not be wasted.
.)Be patient. There is ZERO need to get down and start looking immediately after you shoot. If you made a less than favorable shot, you could push your deer. If you made a good shot, it'll be just as dead in 30 minutes as it is in 30 seconds.
.)There is nothing wrong with tracking your own deer. Most of us encourage it.
.)If you're searching instead of tracking, STOP. If you find bone, STOP. If you find gut, STOP. If you've followed blood for more than 100 yards, STOP. You're likely pushing them.
.)Phone calls are always free. Give me a call and lets talk about it.
.)BE HONEST. We're not here to judge. Tell us how far you looked. Let us know of you had your buddies duck dog on it before. Believe me. We'll be able to tell.
.)If you already had someone come out, let us know.
.)If you make an arrangement with a tracker, keep your word. We all talk, and that's a way to make it on a list you don't want to be on.
.)Just because someone can get there faster doesn't mean that's your best option. Most likely if we tell you a certain time, there's a reason behind it.That goes back to number 1 and knowing who you're working with.
.)Repeat after me. RAIN WILL NOT WASH AWAY THE SCENT. In fact it helps hold it.
.)Bubbles don't always mean lung.
- Bone on the ground is almost always leg bone.
.)Some trackers charge. Some only accept tips. Some refuse money. Consider what you've spent to kill this deer, what it's worth to you, and what someone's time and effort is worth to you. Another couple hundred bucks put up for a couple tracks would be a wise investment. With that said, the majority of us aren't out to gouge anyone. We're folks that like to help others. And if you make it through the year without needing a dog, you'll have some cash to take Mama on a date for putting up with your hunting obsession 🤪🤪
God Bless and Happy Hunting
