Some great information about Blastomycosis from Animal Hospital of Lake Villa. Keep an eye out for the signs listed here. As always, contact your vet with any concerns!

With recent media coverage and an increase in reported Blastomycosis cases in our area, we understand there are questions and concerns within our community. Blastomycosis is a fungal infection found in soil, most commonly in moist, wooded areas and near bodies of water. Dogs are exposed through normal outdoor activity by inhaling spores in the environment.

Signs can vary but may include coughing, low energy, decreased appetite, or skin changes. These symptoms can be associated with a variety of conditions, but if they persist or worsen, an exam is recommended.

If your dog has been spending time outdoors and you’ve noticed any changes, we recommend scheduling an appointment so we can evaluate them appropriately. Please note that a valid doctor-patient relationship is required for us to provide medical advice or treatment recommendations.

(Edit: For clarity, blastomyces dermatitidis is the fungus responsible for blastomycosis. The graphic mistakenly lists "dermatitis", which refers to skin inflammation rather than the organism itself)

Spring Break Expectation: calm, organized, everything goes according to plan
Reality: long schedules, extra miles, coffee… and a whole lot of personality

A little chaos, a lot of wagging tails 🐾 (and step counts that got a little out of hand). Long days, full routes, and pets that made it all worth it.

UPDATE: Precautionary boil order has been lifted

Sharing for folks in Round Lake Beach — water for pets should be boiled for 3 minutes (and then allowed to cool) while under the precautionary boil order.

Did you know everyday items like food, plants, and medications can be toxic to pets? It’s so important to know what to keep away from your pets to prevent accidents. Here we highlight the top 8 toxins/poisons most commonly in dogs.

Store harmful substances safely, and always stay aware of what your pet might have access to. If you think your pet has ingested something dangerous, contact us immediately or call Poison Control. Early action can save lives!

There are cats who want to be held. Flower prefers to be admired.

She chose the softest seat in the room and settled in like a ruler reviewing her territory. From that perch she kept a careful eye on all activity.

Approach is not encouraged.
Petting is not advised.
Distance is wisdom.

And yet — she is magnificent. 👸
