Pinoy Pearl Standard fin.
Pinoy is a fascinating beautiful phenotype group, I say phenotype group because Pinoy appears the most beautiful as a hybrid unset grouping within several different unset strains. Ultimately one would want homozygous genetics for Philippine Blue, Homozygous for Pearl, heterozygous for Dark and heterozygous for zebra and oh, a bucket of luck. Cultivating this composition of the various genes is a bit frustrating but can be very rewarding. Despite your best efforts to create and maintain the perfect ability to render the best color form you will have only a percentage of great fish and sometimes one or ten that are truly epic. To maintain the ability to create a really nice pinoy living art form that really gets me all giddyapp :), I keep a line of Double Dark veils, A line of Blue zebra veil pearls, a line of black pearl veils and groups of pinoys in many differing hues. Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes oops, we start from near scratch. The reason we sometimes need to start from near scratch has to do with the painful genetic fact that some genes are deleterious. Oh yes, dark gene, pb to some extent and definitely pearl are deleterious genes, but I love 'em. Deleterious genes are genes that when over focused have an effect resulting in low fertility, form defects, immune disorders, stunting or often minimal size attributes or fry growth or durability issues. If you get to a point where no matter what you try your fry just sort of bail from the living form after a few days to weeks you most likely have over focused deleterious genes that are causing issues with your fry, try swapping out a partner on your pairs that works genetically and you may solve the issue.
Pinoy types, fish that drive us crazy in the best way. I'll be posting images of some of my best attempts soon.
