This is a very good reminder just like the hospital the vets can also be a place where your dog can get sick if not handled right. Also, dogs that go to the vet most of the time do not like it so socializing is not recommended there.
WHATS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? This puppy is at his first vet visit and he's out on the clinic floor... 😔and unfortunately, this puppy did contract Parvo at the vet that day! 🐾Thankfully, he recovered but NOT until after weeks of sickness and recovery AND a very costly vet bill 💸(just to top if off)! So, this is a friendly reminder... when you take your puppy to the vet, PLEASE keep them in your arms or in a crate. To the exam table and then directly back into the crate.
Don't let people in the waiting room hold your puppy, don't weigh them on the standing scales in the waiting room and don't allow them to go potty on the grass outside the clinic, the Parvo virus lasts up to 6 months in the soil.
The vets office is NOT the place to socialize your puppy. It's actually one (if not the most) dangerous places you can take a puppy whose not fully vaccinated...😷 it's where people take their sick dogs after all... but of course a lot of people don't think of the vet like.. unfortunately, that can be a pretty deadly and expensive mistake.
🐾❤ ANYWAY! Today, this beautiful boy is a very healthy and happy and almost 2 years old Teddy Bear and his family (and his breeder) are both very lucky and GRATEFUL that he was so healthy to begin with and he survived this deadly and contagious disease that kills most puppies and a puppy sick with parvo is horrifying I can not express enough how important it is to stay away from high dog traffic areas until after 16-18 wks old and the last parvo vaccine!!
It's time for some of our puppies at home to go to the Vet for their 12 wk vaccinations so I just wanted to post this reminder!🐾🧐
PARVO PROTOCOL
Canine Parvo (CPV-2) -
Vaccinate every 3 to 4 weeks (8, 12, 16 weeks); final shot should be given at 16 weeks to minimize risk of maternal antibody interference.
Another booster should be given around puberty or 12 months or age then every 3 years thereafter.
