🐾 Good-bye to Our Kioshi

Today, we said good-bye to one of our own.....the best coworker, companion, supervisor, and counselor. If you have worked, volunteered, or visited our facility within the last 8.5 years, you probably have had to pleasure of seeing our sweet (and sometimes spicy), Kioshi aka "Kiki". Queen Kioshi demanded that her peasants give (more than) her daily ration of treats, allow her to sit/lay where ever and when ever she chose even if it meant disrupting the workflow, tell her how pretty and how much of a good girl she was, etc. Our team is heartbroken and grieving this big loss so please be send us some good vibes, thoughts, and prayers. If you have memories of seeing her in our shelter, please feel free to share them with us in the comments.

Kioshi,
You are already missed sweet girl....enjoy all of the Churus that await you on the other side of the rainbow bridge🌈. Until we see you again, we love you....💕

‼️Urgent foster or adopter needed‼️

🐶 Meet Brick!

This handsome young pup has now been with us for the second time through no fault of his own. He is not handling shelter life well and is starting to hurt himself in the kennel.

Once outside he is such a happy dog. Loves to be by your side, loves to play tug with toys and knows several commands. He also enjoys playing with other dogs.

🩵We just need ONE person to say YES to Brick!

He is 2 years young, 67 pounds and fully vetted!

➡️ Please send us an email to [email protected] or come visit him if you can help!

INTRODUCING: 👿 TEAM TERROR-BONNE 👿

This Saturday, October 17th, come out to 6928 Saints Dr. in Metairie for Barkapalooza!

We'll be there with adoptable pups, but there will also be fun activities for all ages, craft vendors, splash pools for the dogs, and the main event… an absolutely feral game of kickball (that we will win, btw).

We’re looking forward to facing off against Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services (or JPAWS), The Louisiana SPCA, and Trampled Rose Rescue & Rehab. We'd wish our opponents good luck, but they're going to need a lot more than that. 💅

Pssssttt: JPAWS and Trampled Rose, we tried to tag y'all but we couldn't. Y'all scared or what? 😼

On Tuesday, Shelter Director Valerie Robinson and Lan Tivet of Second Chance Cat Cafe sat down with WVUE FOX 8 to share a little “cat magic”! 🐱✨

Lan was joined by café resident Chandler, who brought all the biscuits! Together, they discussed the importance of animal welfare organizations working hand in hand and the positive impact these partnerships have on communities like ours. 🤝🏻🐾

🐶To Our Animal-loving Community,

On Thursday, October 8, 2026, our Animal Control team responded to a request for a welfare check and in doing so discovered FORTY-SIX (46) dogs living in deplorable conditions. All dogs were rescued from the property. You might recall that our team also handled a large-scale hoarding case a couple of weeks ago in which 33 dogs were seized and are still in our custody....and then there was the case right before that with 18 animals that were seized. In the blink of an eye, we took in over EIGHTY (80) dogs between these 2 cases and that doesn't include the other homeless animals that were already in the shelter's care.

As you can imagine, these cases have put us FAR beyond our capacity to house and care for all of these animals and here is where YOU come in.

We are in desperate need of:

* Volunteers to clean and care for the 200+ animals in our care - dishes, laundry, cage cleaning, anything helps!! Sign up here volgistics.com/appform/233654789
* While the dogs related to these cases aren't quite able to be placed in a home, fosters are needed for the other dogs in our care to give us temporary space in the shelter

If you can help, please email us at [email protected].
