Meet our Dogs of the Week, Ginger and Doug! 🤍

These two may look like siblings, but they actually just met a couple weeks ago here at Pet Commander Kennels… and it was instant best friend status from day one. From playtime to hanging out side by side, they’ve been inseparable ever since. 🐾

We love getting to watch friendships like this grow during daycare and boarding stays.

Does your dog have a best bud? Tell us who they’re always excited to see! 👀

We are officially booked for the next three weekends, including Memorial Day Weekend 🐾

We have had a lot of calls for this weekend and into next week, so if you are still in need of Memorial Day boarding, please feel free to call us and we will gladly place you on our cancellation list in case anything opens up.

But honestly...we just have to take a moment here to pause and tell you how grateful we are for you.

The trust that you place in us to care for your dogs means more than we could ever fully put into words. Thank you for choosing us, for referring your friends and family, and for allowing us to be part of your dogs’ lives. We truly do not take that responsibility lightly.

Because of your amazing support, this summer is already booking faster than we have ever seen before, especially around holiday weekends.

We wanted to give our loyal clients a heads up that if you have summer vacations, weekend getaways, or travel plans coming up and need a staycation planned for your pup, now is the time to secure those dates.

At this point, there are only a few kennels remaining for Fourth of July boarding. 🎆

Thank you again for continuing to trust us with your dogs. We absolutely love what we do, and we are so thankful for this amazing community.

One of the compliments we hear most often from our boarding and training families is how much space their dogs have here... and that is something we are very intentional about.

Our roomy kennels are designed with both comfort and freedom in mind. Each one includes indoor and outdoor access, so dogs can move back and forth as they please throughout the day (aside from a quiet rest period around mealtimes). The indoor spaces are climate controlled, giving them a comfortable place to relax no matter the weather.

These two housemates loved having so much room that they turned their kennel into their own little play zone and started romping around together.

And that is just part of the fun. Every dog staying with us also enjoys 4 long play sessions each day in our large outdoor play yards, giving them plenty of room to run, sniff, explore, and burn off energy.

We believe space matters because a dog that has room to move, play, and relax is a dog that feels more comfortable and at home during their stay. 🐾

One of the biggest mistakes dog owners make during summer break? ☀️🐾

Forgetting that routine changes affect dogs too.

With kids getting out of school soon, homes are about to get louder, busier, and much more active. While many dogs love the extra excitement, some can become overstimulated quickly.

One of our favorite tips this time of year:
Make sure your dog still has quiet time and space to decompress. 💛

A few easy ways to help the end of school year transition:
🐶 Keep feeding and potty routines consistent
🐶 Encourage kids to let dogs rest uninterrupted
🐶 Create a quiet place your dog can retreat to
🐶 Balance activity and excitement with downtime

A well-rested dog is often a happier, calmer dog.

Does your dog love the extra summer chaos… or hide from it? 😂🐶

You may notice some of our training dogs carrying toys during their walks, and it’s more than just cute.

For many dogs, carrying a toy gives them a job to do. It can help them stay focused, build confidence, and redirect some of that extra excitement into something productive. Instead of fixating on every distraction around them, they have something familiar to focus on.

This can be a helpful tip to try at home too. If your dog gets overly excited on walks, bringing a favorite toy along may help them stay more engaged and calm. Every dog is different, which is why we use what motivates each individual dog best.

At Pet Commander Kennels, we love finding simple ways to make training practical, fun, and effective.

Has your dog ever tried carrying a toy on a walk? What do they bring with them?

Some dogs just need a good game of fetch to make their whole day. 🎾

One of our favorite parts of daycare and boarding is getting to learn what each dog loves most. For these two, it’s all about chasing tennis balls, burning energy, and having the best time with their buddies.

A tired dog is a happy dog…especially when tennis balls are involved. 😄

Would your dog ever stop playing fetch if they had the choice?

“Place” and “stay” may look simple, but they are two of the most useful skills a dog can learn.

A solid place command teaches your dog to settle calmly on a bed or designated spot until released. That can be incredibly helpful during dinner, when guests come over, while unloading groceries, at the vet, or anytime you need your dog to safely stay out from under your feet.

Stay is just as important for safety. Whether it’s stopping at a doorway, waiting before crossing a street, or remaining calm in a busy environment, these commands build impulse control, focus, and trust between you and your dog.

And honestly…there’s just something extra cute about a dog all cozy in their bed while still staying focused on the job. 🐾

“Place” and “stay” are both skills we work on in our board and train programs because obedience should make life safer, easier, and more enjoyable for both dogs and owners.

What everyday situation would “place” help your dog the most with? 👀

Training isn’t one size fits all, and neither are rewards. One of our first jobs as trainers is figuring out what motivates each individual dog. For some pups it’s treats, for others it’s affection, verbal praise, or a good game of fetch like Hank here.

Once we discover what makes a dog light up, we use that as part of a positive reward system during training. It keeps learning fun, builds confidence, and helps dogs truly enjoy the process. Hank definitely votes for playtime rewards. 🐾

That “run and play” time your dog gets here? It’s not just a bonus… it’s a big part of what makes their stay so special.

Every dog at Pet Commander Kennels gets four outdoor play sessions every single day...whether they’re here for boarding, daycare, or training. Because movement, fresh air, and interaction aren’t extras… they’re essential.

Playtime gives dogs a healthy outlet for energy, helps reduce boredom, and builds confidence. And when it’s done right, it also creates positive social experiences that carry over into better behavior at home.

What makes ours different is how intentional it is. Every play session is fully monitored with a staff member physically present in the yard the entire time (not watching from afar). Dogs are thoughtfully grouped by our trainers based on personality and play style, and we keep groups small so every dog stays safe, comfortable, and actually enjoys themselves.

You’ll see a lot of happy tails out here… and there’s a reason for it 🐾
