Goat appreciation post: today's feature, the biggest PITA herself, Ms. Daisy Duck aka . HC farm Daisy Duck 🦆
For a yearling FF to hold her own next to the big girls, willingly and patiently hang out on the milk stand since day one, not question or fight, and even allow the tiny showman to practice hand milking, she's one to watch. Is she going to win rings this year? Well maybe not, unfortunately she's uneven from a single and depending on the day it's pretty noticeable despite our efforts. But she's got these lovely long teats, nice orifices and udder texture like a pillow. Milks down to virtually nothing. Is she immature? Yes heck yes I WANT my yearlings and 2 year olds to he a little immature, especially if that means they're going to LAST.
This week at camp, I asked Rayleigh to take her to their groups linear appraisal class because I wanted to hear another point of view, and most of what was said I absolutely agreed with. She held her own pretty well with the class of 3 year olds I felt. It came to the parts where depth of body and strength were involved. Mostly front end width for dairy strength. Some of those things that come with maturity.
I wasn't upset or sad to hear those things as I was expecting them and wholeheartedly agree.
Side note: apparently I haven't gotten any good udder pics of her. Something to work on!
